My girlfriend and I were talking the other day about whether we were going to have a baby or not if we get married.I'm 41(with a 11 year old) and she is 29(with a 10 and 6 year old).I was saying to her that I was not sure if I wanted to because of my age and the fact that even with both of our incomes it would be an extreme financial burden and things would be really really tough financially.She feels that if God wants us to have a child that He will let it happen and provide for us.I feel that way but I also feel that I need to do my part in waiting until we are a little more financally better off before we even try.I am just curious on other peoples point of view.

I think you're looking at it with wisdom that comes from maturity. I agree with what you told her.

People have pretty strong opinions about whether or not family planning is "biblical" or not.

There is nothing in the Bible about how many children a couple can/should have.

There is plenty in the Bible about being of one mind and going in the same direction if you are going to be under the same "yoke"- marriage.

Please don't get married until you come to an agreement. I have seen a marriage ruined over this issue- the wife sneaking off of birth control to get pregnant. Not a good result....

There are scriptures that discuss the need for a man to manage his own home well (1 Timothy 3:4) and scriptures that discuss your wife's responsibility to submit to her husband (Eph. 5:22-24).

I don't know of any that discuss how many children a couple should have. There are some scriptures that talk about the blessing of children. (Psalms 127:3-5) and in the old testiment it was HUGE to have many sons. But that had to do with the culture of that era.

It'd be wise for both of you to be in a more
committed relationship with God (FIRST) and flee(RUN)
from the fleshly desires to engage in sexual
activity outside of marriage.

The Bible directs couples to marry, than to burn with desire ---
and to flee(run) from temptations!
Deciding upon having children should be done in unity not
under pressure or by trickery. Each person has a part to play
in establishing the family unit.... it's good to sit down and
count the cost before starting any venture such as having another child... etc.
