I grew up w ere we ad bot water cottonmouth and sqiuarpims ? I was bit by one 2 times. I was sitting ona a braided rub watc ing TF. I felt a stick and moved and and t en anot er stick. I jumped up and one fell out out of my jeans. I killed it and told t e lady wo oned t e ouse. S e put some medication on and t e pain quit.

I like snakes.. I think there cool. I haven't always liked them, but my brother had one and asked me to take care of him for a while so I braved it and then realized they weren't that bad.. Now the rats are another story. If I owned one it may go hungry as I don't quite care for rodents... Any bigger than a mouse and I'm not picking it up!!!

Guinea pigs are ok.. They just stink.. They need a bath quite often!!!!

We used to have guinea pigs...several of them as a matter of fact. 
Depends on their cage, we used rabbit style cages so their feces would drop into a tray that we could remove daily. They had a cubby box to hide and lots of straw to play in. We gave them a real bath once a month.
We had two big long-haired swirly ones named Samson and Delilah and then two smaller short-haired ones named Micky and Minnie. We stuck them all in the bathtub or a wading pool outside and let them play in it as long as they wanted once a week, which helped cut down on bathing time.
They're a little maintenance intensive if you don't want any smells, but it can be done. And they're not nearly as bad as some other pets.

Thanks Doinkdom for the info! If I get one, I want to make sure that they have a decent size cage. BTW, is it a bad idea to have both a male and female in the same cage? I heard it was a bad idea but just wondering.

yes  unless you want bunches more guinea pigs, they tend to breed faster than rabbits. 
Also, Samson would not leave Delilah alone...and she got pretty snippy with him, so we had to put them in side by side cages and that worked well for them. They could play together in the water but that was it.
The other two got along just fine...although we always suspected Micky was a girl anyways.

I would also advise you take them to the vet at least at first just to set a baseline for their health.
Guinea pigs have some health issues that by the time diagnosed, it can be too late. They have sensitive bowels or insides, kinda like a horse since they eat very similar food and some of the digestive problems can be terrible for them.

Ahhhh, OK, thats what I thought! If I get one or two, they will be of the same sex. BTW, is there any discernible difference between male and female regarding persona's too?

nah, I didn't really notice any, but after my first pig, I made whoever I got them from sign a release that everything was contingent on me getting a clean bill of health from the vet.
Delilah was very prissy.
Samson was seriously in love for lack of a better term.
Micky was shy.
Minnie would follow you around.
so they were all different, but I would suggest getting females and definitely having the dr. confirm that since it's not always obvious.

Depends on the reputation of the store.
I would still get them checked, but that's just me.
If you trust the store, then go with that.

I dislike snakes and have no desire to be near one. But, I'd sooner touch one than see a rat or a mouse.

For some reason, we ended up watching Noah's Ark last night with Jon Voight and Mary Steembergen (sp).
Anyways...at one point Noah's wife is caught trying to toss out jars of bugs and snakes and spiders of the ark because they're yucky and creepy and the new world doesn't need them.
I was right there with her
til ya know...I realized God has a plan for everything and those creepy crawlies are part of it, too

Wolf spiders are NOT poisonous.
I am concerned by the posts by those who said they would kill snakes because they are afraid of them or hate them. Snakes in this country eat mostly rodents, insects, and other snakes. Our farm NEVER has a rodent problem because we encourage bull snakes and racers to live around our barns and other buildings. In addition bull snakes eat other snakes, especially copperheads and chicken snakes.
Wild animals should never be picked up or made into pets, whether "cute" baby bunnies or "slimy" snakes. If you see one of God's creatures out living its life, leave it alone! Most snakes won't bite you unless you mess with it or threaten its nest. Be mindful of your surroundings wherever you walk, sit, swim, or eat. Get a book or go online and learn about the varieties of snakes in your area and their role in the ecosystem. And above all, GOD made snakes for a reason and they are His creatures, so please respect them as such.

Even if you don't like them, you can treat them with respect, refrain from killing them, and leave them alone.
Most people fear things they dont understand, and the human response to fear is to hate the thing that is feared because its easier to do that than admit one is afraid because one is ignorant. The human response to hatred is to kill because its easier to kill what one hates than it is to admit that ones hates the thing because one is ignorant about it.
Totally illogical but oh so human.
