I do not like snake at all If I see them I will go the other way. If I have something to kill them I will But I will leave the aera there in if I can. Just dont like them at all.

So hobo spiders do bite, huh? I didn't know that. What about wolf spiders?
When my present husband and I were married, we added vows to the ones normally said. They were that I would take care of the spiders, and he would take care of any mice and moths. Since then, I have added that i will take care of any stinging insects, and he will take care of rats. Yep, we discovered that there are rats in the neighbor's blackberry vines, which border our property.
Bzirk, I said I would not remarry, especially someone who already had children. Bwahahahahaha!

Yup, hobos are deadly. I don't know anything about wolf spiders.

Now I wonder how many people in Emergency Rooms are snake bite related?

i dont mind some snakes i like the small ones lol that cant choke u or anything when i was younger i use to have a baby garden snake lol i was a tomboy. my aunt use to have two boa consteries lol i am scared of them trouth cus my cousiuns trouth it as funny to take one of them out and chase me around

Probably not as many as the spiders we were talking about, lol.
I do know one other snake-related thing of importance...I may already have said this...anyway, if you do kill a rattler, cut off its head with the shovel and bury it. The head will ALWAYS be dangerous, like, until the thing is fossilized.
This is also from my fish and wildlife friends. Well, one of them. The rest kept saying, 'don't kill the snake!' LOL

When I was in college, a really good friend of mine told me her brother was laid up after a camping trip. I asked her what was wrong, and she laughed a littel and said, "You'll see." We went by her house, and sure enough her brother was on the couch in the living room with his eyes swollen shut. It seems he and his friend had killed a rattler, but he had wiped his eyes after getting venom on them.

Mike,
It goes like this.
One August (in Texas) when I had a toddler of almost two years and was pregnant with my second child, my husband and I traveled to West Texas so he could preach at a church there. The family we were to stay with ran a hunting ranch that was about 10 miles square and at that time the geographic center was located on their extensive property. It was pretty cool, and I wanted to see the marker for the center, but I couldn't handle the thought of rattlers. This is the part of the country that's famous for the "Rattle Snake Roundup." They have to do this every year to keep the balance of nature. LOL!! Actually, I think that's probably a true statement.
Anyway, we arrived at their house and it was so much less rustic than I had imagined. They had a very nicely groomed yard that was several acres, and if I didn't look beyond the yard I would have never known I was in West Texas. After dinner, their 16 year old son was showing me some artifacts (mostly arrowheads) that he'd found on the property. As we were looking at these things he showed me a jar of rattler tails. I could barely look at them. He got excited and started telling me about catching them and selling the meat and skins and making a really good price. He said this was stored in their hunting lodge until they could sell. I shuddered thinking of a freezer full of this stuff. Of course I was polite and smiled, but my skin was starting to crawl.
As it was getting closer to bedtime, they told us that we would be sleeping in their hunting lodge, which I understood was absolutely beautiful. We drove down to the lodge a couple of miles away, and when we pulled up, it was pitch black. You know how it is out in the country when there are no lights -- you can't see your hand in front of your face. I whispered to my husband that I would not set foot out of the car until I could see the ground leading up to the front of this place. They finally got the lights on, and I got out and made my way in. As I walked in, I was truly struck with how gorgeous this place was. Looked kind of like that place in The Shining. Not as big but pretty magnificent. I was in awe for about half a second and then I heard it -- the hissing and rattling. I looked down to the end of the lobby and lo and behold there was about a 200 gallon aquarium full of live rattlesnakes and no top on it. I'm getting freaked out retelling this story. Hope I can sleep tonight without my skin crawling.
Truth be told, I could not move a muscle. I had a baby in one hand, and, and I have no idea what might have been in my other hand. I truly froze. Then one of the hosts said, "Oh, we'll cover them [they meant the snakes] so they won't rattle as much." Gee. I still couldn't move even though I wanted to flee. I was thinking how great it would be to go to one of the rooms as far away from these things as possible and even then I was going to be freaking out. But no, they had forgotten to turn on the air conditioning and told us that it would get cooler much more quickly in a room that was right around the corner from the aquarium (no more than 20 feet away). I actually had to walk past that thing and walk into my room. We also had to leave the door open for a while to facilitate the coolness. You ever been in Texas in August? Believe me if we could have kept the door shut at first we would have, but it was like a dry sauna in that room. Eventually my husband got up and shut the door when it was cool enough, but after the lights were off, I couldn't help but think that snakes were crawling around. We also had twin beds which we pushed together and our daughter, who was originally going to sleep in a portable playpen slept between us on the pushed together beds. I NEVER slept, and to make matters worse, I had the ailment most pregnant women have -- I had to go to the bathroom about halfway through the night. So I lay there in the dark big eyed in fear and almost wetting on myself while I clutched my daughter. I spent all night praying in desperation. Needless to say the next morning I was exhausted.
So off we went to church. I don't think I've ever gotten ready for church so quickly in my life. After we arrived several people came up to greet me and asked me about our stay at the ranch. One old lady came up and said, "I know you stayed with _________, and that they were talking of putting you up at the lodge. I truly hope that's not what they did." I said as pleasantly as possible, "Oh, we stayed in the lodge and it was fine." Then she said, "With the snakes?! Didn't it alarm you that they were not contained?" I said, "Oh, they were contained and _________ told me they couldn't get out of the aquarium since it was glass. Then she said kind of deadpan, "They've gotten out before, and I cannot believe they put you up there. Next time you can stay at my house." Man, you could have knocked me over with a feather.
My husband still apologizes to me to this day for not telling the hosts that it was not a good idea for us to sleep there. I also should have been more assertive about not staying there. But then we were young and stupid as opposed to just being somewhat stupid today. LOL!
I think we were both so tired and so willing to accommodate others that we did put ourselves at risk. Even now 18 years later I cannot believe that happened.

Ignorance -- theirs and ours.
Those people are really fine people, and I think the world of them. But even though they had come from the Dallas area as we had, they had gotten so used to the snakes that I don't think they really thought about the situation. The wife had been deathly afraid of snakes when she first moved there and the husband had taken her snake hunting to get her over her fear. She said it worked great. I believe her since it didn't seem to be a big deal to her.

Interesting I think, so they wouldn't just go hunting for people then? I saw some type of show on cable that talked how snakes pretty much keep to themselves unless feeling threatened.

Mike,
There are so many snakes in that part of Texas that it doesn't matter if they keep to themselves, you can trip over them and drive over them not to mention just seeing them all the time when you live in that part of the state. I was not kidding when I said the Rattlesnake Roundup was done as a precautionary measure to keep the snake population down.

Interesting Lisa, I think the last time that I even saw a live snake was at a museum. Just shows how rare they are here!
