I remember reading that it's always a good idea to take someone with you when buying a car. That way you have someone to refute what the salesperson later says that he never promised.

'dude, I ventured into the car sales world briefly. I was _taught_ that you can write anything in the world on a piece of paper that you can throw into the trash because what they sign is what they have to pay. "What paper? Look you signed the contract!"

I'm with you on car buying, Wintery. It is at the top of my "I'd rather be shot" list.
I am seriously dreading the time when I have to replace my vehicle.

At least this actually is the time and I'm not just in dread.

Of course, when one is worried that they might be pregnant, allowance can be made for an overwhelming sense of dread. Ha, yes I saw that and I read it that way the first time as well!

p.s. I'm sure glad you can take a joke, Lion!

Wow. On top of everything else, you may also be pregnant?!

When you go car-shopping, ask if they give free baby car seats with every purchase.

That's what always bugged me about buying a car. It comes with a factory warranty and the first thing they want to do is sell you an additional warranty. It seems they do not have much confidence in their product.

Wintery, how'd it go at Joey's Jam?

Are you in a new car yet?

I didn't go but I heard it was successful. Even with secular and presumably unsaved musicians participating I was told there was more of God there in one worship song than, well I've forgotten the analogy but I heard it was a lot.

You're trying to rile me up, aren't you? No, I have to make sure it's the right one, for a long and fulfilling relationship, so I'm in no hurry at all. I'm just looking around and accumulating phone numbers so I can eventually contact these crooks dealers and see what we can work out.

Still dreaming about Dodge trucks? I saw one, about a 97 model for about a nickel ($5,000-something). One would need another dream for the gas money though.

LOL!

No more truck dreams since the last one.

What I need to be dreaming about is my next trike.

Hey I saw one of those adult trikes at "You-Know" where! How much is a "peddler's license" where you're going? Dunno? Gotta do your research!

I'm finally through fuming enough to answer you, Sharon-Marie...sorry for the delay.

As you know you have to buy things in season, and one of the things in season now is...

mmmmMolasses!

I just opened my jar, a plastic container with a safety seal even, and distributed three tablespoons over three Texas-style biscuits (as the can described them) and it is _so_ good!

Man I have got to get back up to Sand Mountain and get me some more Sand Mountain Sorghum. Those folks up there can do three things really well. They can raise potatoes, sing and make sorghum.

It's no great loss that Christian bookstores are closing.

First of all, Christian publishing and music seem to be at an all-time high. The big retailers have Christian sections and that puts faith in the public arena, so that's good; obviously then there is a way for the Christian to obtain their reading and listening material.

Now back to the all-time high I was speaking of, I have no stats on sales, but the atmosphere of Christians needing more and more books on every subject doesn't seem to be going away.

So what was/is your local Christian bookstore like? Here's what you'll tell me..."Oh, Currrr-ishtan atmosphere, wonderful fellowship with other believers, such a blessing!"

Now for what you won't tell me..."Oh I can't stand those people who only want their study Bible in King James!" "Oh avoid those books over there...they're no good!" "I hope nobody buys that!" "Why are they letting them sell thee-ese books?" "Tha-at-t music is not of God!" "They may sell a lot of those, but they're WRONG!" ...and so on.

Indeed a lot of bad ideas have come from books that miss the mark.

So really we see a microcosm of the swamp that *is* stagnant Christianity.

Maybe they need to go out--to put us in the public NON-Christian bookstores where we can interact with those who need to hear about how good God is from someone who knows.

Oddly enough, I agree with you.

If Christians could find it within themselves to love people that don't agree with every word they say, Christian bookstores would be more pleasant places for me to go.

Interesting. I don't hang out in Christian bookstores (ours is very, VERY small) so the only place I've seen those attitudes is online.

I think a lot of the stuff for sale in our Christian bookstore is lame. Christian mints? Seriously. And everything is more expensive than in a regular bookstore or office supply store. I try to buy there anyway, putting my money where my mouth is, and I did get the most fantastic dry-lighters there. Loved the first one so much, I bought them in every color.

I also used their resources (back before the internet) to decide which Bible translation suited me the best.

With the internet, the Christian sections in regular bookstores, and the prices they charge, I don't see Christian bookstores surviving in smaller communities like mine.

Our Christian bookstore in town is closing in January ... they can't compete with the Family Christian store just across the bridge. I think when they start into the clearance sale, I'm going to see if they have a Bible on CD ... something I can have playing quietly in the background so that the kids, dh and I can hear the Word without having to directly focus on the print editions.

Oh, enjoy! I love molasses.

I put some in my oatmeal that I had for dinner this evening . . . along with some raw coconut, frozen cherries and dried blueberries.

When ours went out I asked someone I knew why they didn't have any really deep discounts. I could get about as good a markdown at Books-a-Million as their "going out of business" specials. I got my answer. The owners have another bookstore in another state that they were taking their stock back to.

To me that was sort of like taking every last cent out of my town that they could and then taking their Bibles and going home.
