That's what always bugged me about buying a car. It comes with a factory warranty and the first thing they want to do is sell you an additional warranty. It seems they do not have much confidence in their product.

ORIGINAL: WhiteRoseBlessings Wintery, how'd it go at Joey's Jam? I didn't go but I heard it was successful. Even with secular and presumably unsaved musicians participating I was told there was more of God there in one worship song than, well I've forgotten the analogy but I heard it was a lot. quote:
ORIGINAL: WhiteRoseBlessings Are you in a new car yet? You're trying to rile me up, aren't you? No, I have to make sure it's the right one, for a long and fulfilling relationship, so I'm in no hurry at all. I'm just looking around and accumulating phone numbers so I can eventually contact these crooks dealers and see what we can work out. Still dreaming about Dodge trucks? I saw one, about a 97 model for about a nickel ($5,000-something). One would need another dream for the gas money though.

As you know you have to buy things in season, and one of the things in season now is... mmmmMolasses! I just opened my jar, a plastic container with a safety seal even, and distributed three tablespoons over three Texas-style biscuits (as the can described them) and it is _so_ good!

It's no great loss that Christian bookstores are closing. First of all, Christian publishing and music seem to be at an all-time high. The big retailers have Christian sections and that puts faith in the public arena, so that's good; obviously then there is a way for the Christian to obtain their reading and listening material. Now back to the all-time high I was speaking of, I have no stats on sales, but the atmosphere of Christians needing more and more books on every subject doesn't seem to be going away. So what was/is your local Christian bookstore like? Here's what you'll tell me..."Oh, Currrr-ishtan atmosphere, wonderful fellowship with other believers, such a blessing!" Now for what you won't tell me..."Oh I can't stand those people who only want their study Bible in King James!" "Oh avoid those books over there...they're no good!" "I hope nobody buys that!" "Why are they letting them sell thee-ese books?" "Tha-at-t music is not of God!" "They may sell a lot of those, but they're WRONG!" ...and so on. Indeed a lot of bad ideas have come from books that miss the mark. So really we see a microcosm of the swamp that *is* stagnant Christianity. Maybe they need to go out--to put us in the public NON-Christian bookstores where we can interact with those who need to hear about how good God is from someone who knows. **** Comments? Post them. I accept all misfits and miscreants as well as the learned and godly.

Oddly enough, I agree with you. If Christians could find it within themselves to love people that don't agree with every word they say, Christian bookstores would be more pleasant places for me to go.

Christian Book Distributors aka Christianbook.com seems to continue to do really well!

Our Christian bookstore in town is closing in January ... they can't compete with the Family Christian store just across the bridge. I think when they start into the clearance sale, I'm going to see if they have a Bible on CD ... something I can have playing quietly in the background so that the kids, dh and I can hear the Word without having to directly focus on the print editions.

I love molasses. I put some in my oatmeal that I had for dinner this evening . . . along with some raw coconut, frozen cherries and dried blueberries. Re: Christian bookstores closing . . . . . . When ours went out I asked someone I knew why they didn't have any really deep discounts. I could get about as good a markdown at Books-a-Million as their "going out of business" specials. I got my answer. The owners have another bookstore in another state that they were taking their stock back to. To me that was sort of like taking every last cent out of my town that they could and then taking their Bibles and going home.
