Is your Salvation real?
How do you know you are saved from death, hell, and the grave; and, you have been spiritually born again into a spiritual kingdom of God? What is the proof that your salvation is real and legitimate?

Do you recognize anything here that proves you are saved? Which would apply to you?
1.I was born to Christians parents.
2.I attend a Christian church.
3.I believe in Jesus.
4.I was baptized.
5.I have the inner witness of the Holy Spirit that spoke and speaks to me.

Mt 7:21-23 - 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
According to this Scripture, one can be deceived about the legitimacy of their salvation.

2Co 13:5 - Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified.
According this Scripture, we are required to know beyond any reasonable doubt that our salvation is genuine. It will be too late to get before Jesus in judgment and say I thought I was.

Php 2:12 - Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
According to this Scripture, we are to be aggressive and cautious in the walk of and living in our salvation.

I was saved in Aug 1991 by the Holy Spirit telling me that Jesus was indeed the living Word of God that came in the manner of flesh, but was the God. I was a convert from Islamic practices and thoughts that believed that Jesus is the Word of God. However, they say he is still simply a man and not God.

I was invited to a home Bible study and the topic was the plan of salvation. I was invited by a Christian friend who promised me that a lot of girls would be there and that we would go out on the town afterwards to play. During the course of instruction, the Holy Spirit took me to John 1:1 and broke it down in the Greek; and, the rest is spiritual history.........

I clearly remember the Holy Spirit asking me from an inaudible voice within my inner man, “Who do you say Jesus is.” I responded without audibility speaking, “God.” Then the Spirit asked me what I was going to do about this revelation of who Jesus was. I simply said He is my God and Savior, and then I received Him without telling anyone else until I got home. I immediately went home from this Bible Study called my girlfriend, told her I got saved, and that I was breaking up with her because I did not want a girlfriend anymore to get in between Jesus and me. LOL This is my witness of salvation and spiritual birth into the Kingdom of God.

There is no "proof" of salvation, nor will there be until Jesus returns (when He returns).

That's why we call what we have "faith" and not "fact". We have to accept things on belief and not proof; this is the relationship God has asked us to have with Him for now.

Jesus technically never "proved" He was the Messiah to His Apostles. God revealed to Peter who Jesus was, as is characterized in:

"...When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. "

God revealed and Peter believed. And with this faith, this belief, Peter was given the keys - "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Such is faith...

Romans 6:3-4
3Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (ESV)

I have been baptized into Christ's death. My sins were washed away and I was given the righteousness of Christ. Christ's merits were imputed to me at my baptism.

I know that Christ died for me on the Cross. Because He died on the cross for the forgiveness of my sins, I know if I believe in Him, I have eternal life. What Christ did for me on the Cross was imputed to me at my baptism. My sins were washed away.

Since I am a Christian, I know I have to live out that faith that was given me. That is the hard part. Since we are still sinners, and are sinful by nature, we are going to stumble. But we have to get back up again and keep running the race.

I hope this helps.

Your sister in Christ Jesus,
Jessica

This appears to contradict Scripture. God says we are able to know if we are saved.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

The verse quoted by manichunter also tells us we can know by careful examination of our lives.

2Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

But, if one's salvation is based upon the work they do, true, how could they know? How much work is enough work?

quote:

That's why we call what we have "faith" and not "fact". We have to accept things on belief and not proof; this is the relationship God has asked us to have with Him for now.
Then again the internal witness of the Holy Spirit is a fact. God has never asked us to have a relationship with Him built on "doubt". Where do we find that?

quote:

Jesus technically never "proved" He was the Messiah to His Apostles. God revealed to Peter who Jesus was, as is characterized in:
This is how Christ is revealed to every believer - through the grace of God. This is precisely how the Apostles recognized Christ as their Savior.

quote:

God revealed and Peter believed.
There was nothing different about the way the Apostles believed. Any who come to faith today come in the same manner - by God revealing Himself to them. No different today than when the Lord walked the earth.

You know if you are saved if you have Romans chapter 8 going on in your life - the leading of the Spirit. How He leads us is described in Romans chapter 8, 1 John, and John 15 and 16. Jonathan Edwards' book 'Religious Affections' is an excellent book written to help believers discern if they were saved or not. David Martyn Lloyd-Jones' sermons on Romans chapter 8 are very good in helping to understand what the leading of the Spirit is like.

God bless,

You will know when you are Saved/Born Again when God Almighty supernaturally gives you a new heart and a new spirit! I was Born Again April 8th 2007 around 10:30 pm while laying in my bed! I have the Seal of The Living God in my forehead, I have felt it everyday since! Hallelujah, Jesus Christ IS Lord!

Salvation is right now, accept Jesus into your heart as your saviour and then repent from within until something happens!

The most amazing free gift occurs when you least expect it!

.....but the Bible does NOT teach that Christians have a guarantee of heaven. There can be no absolute assurance of salvation.
Rather, this is simply a teaching of only certain denominations. The Bible does, in fact, teach that the true child of God can have that assurance.

quote:

Some people promote a very attractive idea: All true Christians, regardless of how they live, have an absolute assurance of salvation, once they accept Jesus into their hearts as "their personal Lord and Savior." The problem is that this belief is contrary to the Bible & constant Christian teaching.
Your statement is problematic. On the one hand, it is incorrect to say that a "true" Christian cannot have assurance of his salvation. OTOH, I agree with you that salvation is not simply "accept Jesus into their hearts as "their personal Lord and Savior."

quote:

Note that this includes an important condition: "provided you remain in his kindness." It is saying that Christians can lose their salvation by throwing it away.
No, those verses are not saying a Christian can lose his salvation. Again, that is simply a teaching of some denominations.

Scripture tells us true believers can have assurance. For one, the Holy Spirit provides it in Rom 8:16 "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:"

For another, Christ Himself tells true believers of the magnificent assurance they can have in John 10:26-29 as He first speaks to the unsaved and then to the saved: "26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand."

If, in fact, you are a "true" sheep of Christ, you will never become a "goat".

I know I'm saved because I remember the day I passed from death to life, darkness to light. I had been an agnostic and tried to believe the bible for years but could not. Then the day I received the light (literally) I opened the bible and every word seemed alive. Then when I saw Hebrews 4:1-9 that the word is living and active, it confirmed that I was born again. The bible is literally my food.

Here's what the Beloved apostle said:

1 John 5:13 (King James Version)

13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

That you may KNOW with certainty !

This is the topic of this thread. It is not about OSAS, it is not about losing your salvation. The question is a simple one; What is the proof that your salvation is real and legitimate? He gave the example of when he was first saved.

A few of you understood what the OP is asking. Lets all try to keep on the topic. Thank you.

I love the answer that Jesus Christ gave to us. "You will know them by their fruits."

Two through five apply to me. Based on Scripture, however, only three and four have anything to do with salvation. And #5, while true, for me, is not exemplified in Scripture, as far as I know.

Is your Salvation real?
How do you know you are saved from death, hell, and the grave; and, you have been spiritually born again into a spiritual kingdom of God? What is the proof that your salvation is real and legitimate?

There are 2 ways that prove you are saved. The first is because God's word says so. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotton Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting Life" (John 3:16)
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life". John 3:36
He that heareth my word and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation but is passed from death unto life." John 5:24
And this is the will of Him that sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:40

Do you believe that Jesus is the only begotton Son and that He died for your sins and that God raised Him from the dead? You do? So do I. That proves that we are saved and bound for Heaven and that we are alive forevermore. Because God's word says so.

More scriptures from the Apostles:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10
"For by grace are ye saved through Faith; and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast" Ephesians 2:8-9
Every Spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: and every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the Flesh is not of God. IJohn 4:3-4 (Meaning that you need to confess your belief that Jesus is the only begotton Son of God, the word of God made flesh and dwelt among us, who then died for our sins and rose again from the dead.)
He that hath the Son hath Life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not Life.IJohn 5:12 You have eternal Life because you have Jesus. You have Jesus because you believe in Him and confessed Him as your Lord and Saviour. This is proof that you have eternal Life because God's word says so.

The second way to prove you have eternal life and are truly saved is the fruit that it bears in your life:
We know that we have passed from death unto life because we Love the brethren. IJohn 3:14.
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another as I have loved you that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye arew my disciples if ye have Love one to another. John 13:34-35

The works that we are to do once we are saved is to Love one another. If we have Love one for another we have fulfilled the law
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Galatians5:14
Owe no man anyhthing but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law....Love worketh no ill to his neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Romans 13:8-10

If you live your life by loving others this proves that you are saved and for sure have everlasting life. Love also means being forgiving of others in their faults, sins, mistakes and shortcomings.

Numbers 3 and 5 are the ones that prove you are saved. some verses thatr prove you are saved by believing in Jesus are listed above, But Here's a few more: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." IJohn 5:13
"And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name." John 20:30-31

You can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are saved from death and Hell and the grave. Simply by believing in and confessing and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Once you do this you are automatically passed from death unto Life. This Life is forever and you cannot lose it once you have it. "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. I give unto them eternal Life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (Jesus)

"5. I have the inner witness of the Holy Spirit that spoke and speaks to me." Verses to support this: Hereby know we that we dwell in Him and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God Dwelleth in Him and he in God. IJohn4:13-15

The spirit speaks to you and reveals the Truth to you. The fact that you openly confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour proves that God and His Son Jesus dwell in you. Which in turn proves that you are saved. As Paul said in one place: "Nobody can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Spirit of God." (That's not exactly word for word and I can't remember the reference.)

Maybe. But these verses have been misinterpreted too many times by too many people. The key to understanding this is when Jesus said, "I never knew you." This is talking about people who never knew Jesus in the first place and therefore weren't saved in the first place. These verses are used by the people who don't believe in "Once saved always saved" to try and prove that if your not good enough or obedient enough after your saved you can still lose your salvation and go to Hell. This is an erroneous and misleading, misinterpretaion of these scriptures. These verse actually apply more to the "Not once saved, always saved" crowd. Because those are the kind of people that don't knoew Jesus very well. There are a lot of Christians who know all about Jesus but don't really know Jesus. These kinds of people usually believe, and are taught by their Passtors and Priests that they have to work hard and be faithful members of the church in order to get to Heaven. So they go out and do Caritable works, help the poor, give gifts to the church, do their best not to sin, and are usually strailaced and sober, thinking that these things will help them get into Heaven. They belong to the Religion called Christianity but they don't know Jesus and have a hard time confessing Him in front of others, and when they pray it's always, "Dear God" or "Dear Father God". They try to get to God without Going through Jesus. Therefore, they don't really know Jesus and He doesn't really know them. So, the very best way to make sure you are not one of those to whom the Lord is Going to say, "I never knew you; depart from me ye that work iniquity" is to make sure you believe that once saved, always saved. Because then you will depend totally on Jesus for your Salvation. You will not be ashamed of Jesus and His words and you will not be embarrassed to confes your belief in Him to others. Those who think they have to be good and do good works to get to Heaven or to stay saved are not depending on the Lord for their Salvation. They think that their good works will get them to Heaven so they can pat themselves on the back for being righteous enough in themselves to maker it to heaven.

You notice in verse 22 it says"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?" This shows that these people that Jesus is talking about believe that their good works that they did is what should help them to get into Heaven. They believe they're saved by works, not grace.

Then back to verse 21: Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven." What is the will of the Father? To believe on Jesus.

Php 2:12 - Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
According to this Scripture, we are to be aggressive and cautious in the walk of and living in our salvation.

(1) Being born into Christian belief doesn't grant you salvation.
(2) Neither does attending church grant you salvation.
(4) Baptism holds no relevancy over ones' salvation without a personal relationship with Christ beforehand. It's a symbolic representation that demonstrates a rebirth as a believer in Jesus Christ.
(5) This can't happen before 3.

Acts 4:10-12
10) know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11) He is the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone. 12) Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

Salvation is found in no one else except in the name of Jesus Christ. It isn't by works that grant us salvation, but a sincere faith in the King of Kings.

Luke 7:50
50) Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

There is no eternal life or assurance of salvation apart from a genuine faith in Jesus Christ that confesses Him as the incarnate Son of God and Savior.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Doghouse

There is no "proof" of salvation, nor will there be until Jesus returns (when He returns).

By this theory, no follower of Christ truly knows their eternal destination, let alone their salvation. Therefore, every time someone gives their life to Christ, even though they confessed their sins, they're still unknown whether or not they're saved.

That makes nil sense.

There IS a proof of salvation and it rests in Jesus Christ. Salvation is the act of delivering from sin and/or rescuing from evil, the exact purpose of Christ.

1 John 5:13-15
13) I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14) This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15) And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

Salvation is problematic because if our motivation to get right with God is out of fear of going to hell then we may well question our salvation for God does not take prisoners when it comes to faith and love. It is all about knowing God and becoming literally His children. To suggest then that I am not saved is then just confusing for I still love Him very much.

Actually I remember one day as I was walking down the street to town on a beautiful sunny day without a care in the world when satan suddenly asked me, "What if God sends you to hell?" To my surprise my spirit shouted, "Praise God!"

Salavation is not an issue for those who love God. I cannot and do not love Him just to avoid hell, I love Him for who He is and has done, not what He can and will do for me. We can not love for the sake of what is promised but for the reality of what is given now.

The answer to the question is really quite simple. If you are born again of God he will give you the Holy Spirit. If You have the Spirit you will see the fruit of the Spirit in your life. I do not know off the top of my head just where the list of the fruit of the Spirit is but it is found in the word of God. If you do not show the fruit of the Spirit in your everday life then you might want to examine your life and see what is not in line with Gods word. If you see the fruit it is your proof that the Spirit is leading you and doing the work that He was sent to do.

The "proof" of your salvation may only be something revealed to your spirit by the Holy Spirit.

"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children (Romans 8:16)."

In my life, the proof of salvation was an increased interest in things of the Lord that I didn't have before. Studying scripture and biblical topics, in general, are just a couple of areas I noticed changed in my life. The biggest difference was the turning from sinful and destructive behaviors that I didn't even recognize in my life prior to salvation. Have you noticed anything like this in your life? If so, that could be the "proof" you are looking for in your life. While there is no universal proof we all share, one thing we all have in common is the indwelling Holy Spirit. The very life of God indwells us for all eternity. He will lead us and guide us from within. The individual relationship we all have with God reveals itself in numerous ways. Sit back and take note of whatever changes that have happened in your life since you were saved. Then you will have the "proof" you seek.

Grace and Peace

For me, we may have the hope of salvation, but if I were to say “I know”, would be arrogance and pride, of which are resisted of God. In Ephesians.2:8, as well as in I Peter.1:4, I have seen over the years that churches leave out the most important ingredient in salvation, which is Faith. I hear the endless statement of “We are saved by grace”, from Eph.2:8; and also “fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” from I Pet.1:4. But I seem to never hear that we are saved by grace through faith; or reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God (and again) through faith. Did´nt even Christ say that the scripture cannot be broken? (John10:35), therefore if we are not faithful, that is reliable to God´s Word, then we would not be connected, but rather severed from grace and salvation, because it is accomplished THROUGH FAITH, again, our reliance on the Word of God. I´m not at all attempting to make a controversy, because I also believe even as Paul said, that there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness at that day(II Timothy.4:8), yet I also know that I must continue in God´s goodness, otherwise I also will be cut off(Roman,11:22). It seems by all the indicators of God´s Word, He is telling us not to be presumptuous, but to take heed to ourselves and to the doctrine; and to continue in them(I Timothy.4:16).

quote:

How do you know you are saved from death, hell, and the grave; and,
you have been spiritually born again into a spiritual kingdom of God? What is the
proof that your salvation is real and legitimate?
Its very mysterious.

He is in me.

The new man is growing, the old man is dying, but
I still do the things I hate and do not do the things I love.

He is my hearts desire, my flesh cries out as it continues to die.

Thats experiential.

The Bible says we can be confident. How?

Here's a few:
Love for God,
hatred of sin,
love for the lost,
love for the brethren.

Because our salvation is a process, not an event.

We are saved from and saved for.

Not a date, time and place we nostalgically reminisce about,
like going through an old photo album.

I like what John Piper said:

"Do I have to show you my birth certificate to prove I am alive?
Here I am - I am breathing - I am alive - Today!"

My heart is burdened...................so many are deceived,
their confidence is in what they think, not what He is doing.

Phil 1:6.

Out..................

1JN 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life,
because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

Probably THE defining verse that proves a believer has true faith!

If GodsMusic is saying there is no definite "proof" this is also correct.

Nobody can "prove" they are saved to any man, nor should they want to.

And no man has the right to judge whether someone is saved or not.

BUT -- there will be undeniable evidences of one's regeneration.

So, it is not for us to be so-called "fruit inspectors", but the Bible is
very clear on this: no fruit, no root. 1 John and James is a slap in the face to
superficial believers whose lives bear no witness to the Spirit within.
Also see John 15:1-17 (esp. vv. 5, 16).

The biggest problem in Christianity today: many are pleased to
accept the gift of God's grace, but deny its power by exempting the
believer from any expected lifestyle change. This thinking
is result of poor doctrine and false teaching.

Do you think holiness (fruit) is expected, automatic, and/or inevitable?

I think 1John is saying yes or there might be a big problem.

See, many people place their assurance and confidence on a time, date and place,
baptismal certificate, or church membership and NOT on the internal witness
of the Holy Spirit they have received.

A true believer has a current, ongoing, living relationship with God.
