Haven't posted in awhile:
A Walk to Beautiful: documentary about women in Ethiopia with fistula. A condition resulting from unproductive labor which usually kills the baby and leaves the woman so damaged she is an outcast in her family and community. The documentary follows a few women in their walk from the countryside to the city where a special clinic has been set up to heal them. This doc. brought out a lot of emotions in me and it did a good job being realistic about how much doctors can heal.
Robot Chicken: Eh, my husband's choice. From the adult swim series. Some funny things, especially for those who remember cartoon series from the '80s. Some icky stuff.
Saboteur: One of Hitchcock's minor films about a worker at an airplane factory who is wrongly suspected of sabotage during WWII. So of course he launches a cross-country search to rid his country of the Nazi scourge. And meets a beautiful model on the way. And has dozens of people from a blind musician to circus performers help hide him from the police. It got a bit tiresome.
Once: a very natural musical about a Dublin street musician and the Czech immigrant who encourages him to write and live his dream. I enjoyed this.
Roseland: 3 stories about a New York ballroom in the 1970s. Not spectacular.
Stray Dog: very nice Kurosawa movie from 1949. A noirish piece about a rookie cop (a very young Mifune) who gets his gun stolen from him on a crowded tram and trails it to a killer. What really stands out here is how realistic post-war restoration is shot. I would really recommend this to someone interested in post-war Japanese history even though it's fiction. A little melodramatic at times, but the themes of how men came back from the war and the choices they made is very interesting. Cast is amazing (as usual, most of them are Kurosawa regulars).
The Man Who Never Was: WWII vehicle about the allies use of a dead man and fake papers to throw off Nazi belief that the Allies would land in Sicily. Decent cast, general melodrama of the time.

Married Life- Pierce Brosnan Chris Cooper- good movie. I like the 50's atmosphere and Chris Cooper is a very good actor.
Grace is Gone- it's predictable but it was good. Not great but good. John Cusack was good.

Made of Honor- cute and predictable. Some funny moments. I thought it was kinda amusing on how they made Patrick Dempsey looking like himself from 'Can't buy me love' in their college years. I'm sure it's make up but it was still amusing.

Have Been Away For A While Cause I Was On Holidays:
Just Came Out To DVD:
Run Fatboy Run- Absolutely Loved it. Good Story as well
Pathology- Good Movie but has a lot of Blood and Guts in it plus quite a bit of Sex as well
Deception- Suprised how good it was. Loved the twist in the end. But a lot of Sex as well
Watched On The Plane to NYC:
Bank Job- Good Flick but could do without the Sex though
Married Life- Good Flick.
Theathes:
Rightious Kill- Excellent Movie. Good Twist as well

Here's some goodies I shoulda posted sooner...
Zatoichi (The Beat Takeshi remake)
I finally had the chance to check out this recent, hip remake, featuring the Japanese media superstar/auteur, with some interesting plot twists at the end--especially on the titular character.*
*something about Takeshi saying that when he was one half of "The Two Beats" (then Japan's most popular, alternative comedians), he made ample comedic material on the blind swordsman-masseur hero as some dolt!
A Bittersweet Life
The seemingly generic, vengeance-themed Korean gangster film seems to give a much more refined, high brow view of the genre by way of using the Buddhist theological/philosophical take on Fellini's La Dolce Vita, hence the subtle homage in the title; well, that and the "plot twist" explaining why the protagonist did what he did with that thematic, unforgivable mistake. I guess that's all the reason more why after watching this stylish, literally waltzy action movie, I opine that Buddhism is NOT the way for my life!*
*the bloody confrontational scene when the anti-hero was lectured by his captor that life is suffering, and the last narrated soliloquy recalling how a Buddhist disciple weep to his mentor that the sweet dream he woke up from, can never be a working reality! Very true; maybe that's why I feel compelled to say that this film should be required/essential viewing for both Christian and non-Christian audiences (especially those contemplating converting to Buddhism!).

Postal. *Hubby is big gammer and liked to play the Postal games. I was a good sport and watched it with him. I wasted two hours of my life that night, but I will have to admit that I did laugh during the movie.

The President's Last Bang
Darkly funny/satirical, yet politically incendiary take on 1979 assassination of South Korean president-turned-dictator Park Chung Hee, where no sensibilities is spared, i.e. the military, the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, Korean Christianity, and possibly America (albeit under the Carter Administration). I found the movie a bit too mean-spirited and angry at times, since director Im Sang Soo was a veteran student dissident of the Korean democracy movement (post-Kwangju massacre?). Not surprisingly, the movie got Im in a whole lot of trouble with ardent Park supporters--especially the then-president's family (hint: for having the movie portray the statesman as a libertine philanderer of young women), which is more than enough for the director to hire bodyguards himself!
Getting Any (Lately)?
Beat Takeshi's foray into sex comedy is a dismal approach to broad humor/pop-culture parody, which initially (the story) is about this Tokyo loser going on some absurdist/quixotic quest to get laid at any cost... almost literally. Skip this flop if you have the chance...

A Broken Life- Alright movie but wasn't great. It's about a guy who is going to kill himself and gets a friend to film his last day.
Before The Rains- Good Film. All About an English man who goes to india in the 30's to build a road and falls in love with a Indian Women.

M (the Lee Myung-Se version)
Not to be confused with that pre-WWII era, Fritz Lang thriller, M is about some Korean novelist (by the name of Min Woo, with likes in Mozart and other artisans with names starting with the letter "M") trying to get past his writer's block, by way of visualizing his fictitious heroine as a real person/lover/fan girl... or something to that effect!  
Although it's visually stunning with its color schemes, set designs, cinematography, I felt the metafictional movie feels too artsy for art's sake, leaving little for any kind of cohesive story-telling, let alone a typical popcorn/pop-friendly viewing. But like (David Cronenberg's adaptation of) Naked Lunch, or Spike Jonz's (?) Adaptation, it's more about the writing of a story, rather than what the story's about. Oh well...

The Life before her Eyes- w/ Uma Thurman. 'did not think I would like it but it was good. I did not see the movie ending that way and some of my confusion while watching the movie made sense at the end.

It was entirely too graphic, however I was liking the plots and such. I thought the characters were believable and the problems of the relationships realistic.

New Ones That Come Out Tomarrio:
The Hulk- Good Flick. Better then the one they did in 2000 or 2001. Kinda have to see the 2000 or 2001 cause this one kinda combines the two. Also a camio with Robert Downy Jr.
The Strangers- Verry scarry movie. A couple go to there summer home after going to a wedding and a bunch of people in a mask attack them.
Linewatch- Good Film. All about a Guard at the Mexican-American Border
Noise- Interesting Film. All about a guy who goes Crazy when a car alarm goes off
Others I Watched
Rescue Dawn- Excellent Film
The Mummy 2- Seen it before but watched it again with a bunch of firends
Theatres:
Max Pain- Good Film but slow at times.

For an ultra-violent movie (rated by the Hong Kong films rating board with a Category III, the Cantonese equivalent of NC-17, or The BBFC's Certificate 18), one can't help but laugh one's head off (as much as some lopped off noggins) over the "For-Immature-Audiences-Only" lunacy, especially when dubbed by the same folks who must have dubbed 90 or so percent of most Asian movies since the chopsocky/Godzilla franchise 70's!
, even I found the sexual-supernatural content in WC to be far more than I can handle... never mind the fact that I'm a bit familiarized by Yoshikawa Kawajiri's work, like Ninja Scroll.
