I think we're going to be doing more shopping online than we used to. Even with paying for shipping, it's still cheaper than making a trip to town to get something, and a lot of places ship free. I checked out grocery shopping, but it looks like all the good places are on the East coast.

We have a grocery store that will let you place your order online and they will deliever free if it's over something like $75. However, it's the most expensive store around, so I'm not sure that it would be worthwhile.

Yeah, that's what I've mostly found. They cost a lot, and they don't have most of the items I buy anyway.

I wish that Sam's Club did that! That would be awesome. Of course, We are an hour away so...
I just did a click and pull and then just picked up odds and ends. that really saves on a lot of time for us. It would be nice if we could save on gas too.

I haven't tried it yet, but I know some who have.
I never buy produce there because I've found it better at other stores. Also, I've been told that if you order produce to be delievered, they often will send out the stuff that is only a day away from being tossed.

Most of our local grocery stores offer free delivery (with a certain amount purchased). But I've got about 3 groceries within a mile, so it's not a big deal to me.

I just saw that restaurants are planning to take a hit this summer where I live, and there will be fewer restaurant jobs than usual. It sounds to me as if people are eating out less to compensate for gas. We're already experiencing state budget cuts because of the economy, I hope they don't cut any deeper because of this.

My mom saw the headline : People are eating at fast food restaurants to save money
My mom had to read it because it sounded... wrong.
What they meant was that people are choosing fast food as opposed to the sit down fare to cut down on costs because of feeling the gas crunch.

My wife and I work out of our home. No commute!!
When we run errands, we do them all at once in a circle route to minimize time and distance.
I have also found a website that gives gas prices close to where I live so I can drive straight to the cheapest supplier. You can check http://gaspricewatch.com/new/default_V3.asp. Put in your zip code and see who is reporting.

We cannot eat out like we are used to. It looks like we will do more dollar menu eating then the nice sit down places we like better What stinks is we are about 40 min for my husbands job so he has to drive every day. At least it is close to Wal Mart so he can stop in for me while he is in town. We were going to sell and move closer but we just found a house in our little town that is a huge steal. If we bought that place and rented our old one we could make at least 100 dollars more then we have now. The mortgage would be 80.00 less a month plus we would get at least 60 in profit on the mortgage from collecting rent. DH also does the water and may become the building inspector. If gas prices do not go up much higher then they are now we will do OK but not near as well as we could have if gas was still 1.59 a gallon.

We keep asking for the mileage reimbursement rate to go up but are told that we won't see that. Now that I think about it, we might have a chance come July 1... we'll see. Last week, I heard of another company that was reimbursing gas at nearly $.20 more per mile than what we're getting!! It's insane that we're not getting the same.

I think I average 1000-1200 miles/month just for work. The office is only 8 miles from my house, but its a 30 minute drive. I go in maybe once a week, the rest of the time I'm out in the field. Generally my mileage reimbursement rate is matched with the federal rate, but they haven't picked up the last increase yet. Maybe July 1...

I do approx 500kms a week. Petrol prices here are about $1.53/litre on the cheap days and up to $1.62/litre on the expensive ones. (1 gallon = 3.7 litres)
Luckily I have a very fuel efficiant car (Holden Barina!) so it only costs me about $55/week to fill up. My bf's fuel bill has gone up to $130/week but he has a larger car so we combine trips to work if our hours fit.

I was already living check to check, so I really feel the rising cost of gas/food and whatever else...
I make my own smoothies:) frozen berries from Tjoes, soymilk, plain yogurt and some honey. yum! Blend!
The rising gas prices was just a wake up call to take care of my finances...Everything is going up and my salary isnt. So all I can do for now is cut down on some stuff...since Im not finding better employment for now...
I cut off the $20 internet on my phone (I already had internet at home)
I called my internet company to turn off the internet and they reduced my rate about 15$
I refuse to get cable tv...As Im typing this, the cable company knocked on my door and offered A GREAT deal. I think its a test. only 29.95/month! Just last week, I got a flyer advertising a deal for 50$, so 30 seems like a steal. I cant go for it though. I have to pass this test. I do have a roommate and she would pay 1/2...Im torn. I just dont think peope who live check to check should have cable.
I do buy lunch more than I should, but I make sure to cook my dinner most days (leftovers, I just have for dinner again, not lunch)...
I hand wash some items rather than dry clean.
I clean the inside of my car myself...
I do my own mani/pedi...and no salon trips. I do my own hair now! Except for last week cause I got extensions, and I cant do that myself!
and I still live pay check to pay check! but I pay more on my credit cards and get clothes more offen now (this has made me a lot happier) and I buy more food from Trader Joes...(This has made me happier too)
Should I get the cable?:) Id get rid of my 5$ netflix. Im torn.

Oh, I already drive a car w/good mileage - a toyota Corolla. Maybe 10 years after Im done w/this car note, Ill get a nice used hybrid:)
I used to drive 10 miles to go walking at this park:) duh, If I want to walk, I can walk around my neigborhood. Ive discovered that there are nice places to walk to right in my own area. driving so I can go walking. ridiculous! Maybe its a good thing gas prises are up! I wasnt thinking until now!

Our finances are stagnet for right now with my hubby being unemployed and my most recent tutoring job falling through. Hubby's looking for work tho so maybe something will come of that and SOON! As hard as it is to feed one person on a single income - try feeding a family of six - two of them boys - one teenager and one that could eat like a teenager if you let him. What I hate is having to ration out the milk. We rarely buy sweets anymore and resort to making lots of things from scratch - which isn't all that bad really.

We would have to get a dish if we wanted more then the 5 or 6 local channels we get over the air. Yes we did go out and purchase the convertor boxes at $10 a piece after our $40 coupons from the government. When hubby's sister lived with us, several years ago, she wanted cable. Hubby refused to pay for it because we didn't want it in the first place. But SIL agreed to pay for it in full so she got in installed, but in her room only.

And we still live paycheck to paycheck - or right now unemployment check to unemployment check. We don't buy new clothes unless absolutely neccessary. Our credit card gets paid but not as much as we would like and we still buy pretty much only generic foods. We even planted a garden this year. Well we did last year too but not because it was the financially smart thing to do.
We VERY RARELY eat out.
We drive only when need be and then we combine our errands and trips and fit in as much as possible.
We use the library A LOT instead of buying books.
We haven't turned on our air conditioner yet and don't plan on doing so until it gets into the 90's.
We use energy efficient appliances and light bulbs.
We recycle.
I'm at a loss as to what more we can do!
