I have been listening to Mr. MacArthur this week on Romans Chapter 8. I have decided that I could in fact be wrong with how I have been perceiving him. The way that he preaches sounds just like he does always. I am thinking that it is much more style now than it is disposition instead.

Praise God for showing you that your perception was off, Mike. His style is foreign to modern ears because so few people do expositional teaching these days. When I was a teenager, more people did verse-by-verse teaching, but in the mid-80's, the paradeigm shifted to psychology, emotional healing, and "felt needs." Preaching used Scripture as a springboard, rather than a foundation. For me, MacArthur's teaching is like coming home!

I'm looking forward to reading John's "The Gospel According To Jesus." I'll start as soon as I finish David Jeremiah's book, "What In The World Is Going On." So much to read and so little time..................

YES he is 100% right. The new so-called gospel, deals with teaching people to be self seeking, health wealth and proseperity, and feel good and feel comfortable type of churches. (Rough Way of putting it).

Finding a church who takes God and his words and his house seriously with truth and sound doctrine is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. ANd false teachers are so convincing and settle so beware.

ALWAYS remeber just cause the church might be friendly that does not mean they speak sound doctrines and truth. Even cults are friendly and nice to people to, and yet they are way off from the truth.........

As Jesus said, the blind leading the blind, both will fall into the pit. (Hell)

In 1988 MacArthur charged that the church has been taken over by a false gospel. Is he right?

So...have you finished Jeremiah's book? What did you think? I've been listening to some of his current sermons (on the radio) about that subject. (Start a new thread somewhere, if you think it warrents discussion.)

Still reading it, Peter. Had to go out of town this past weekend, so no reading was done. I've listened to several of his radio sermons. It's very, very good. And yes, I think it does deserve a new thread.

Earlier in this thread we were having the discussion about self esteem. During this past week John MacArthur preached in part on having self worth. To be honest, I see self worth and self esteem to be one and the same, but I guess they are not. As a result I was misunderstood in this thread.

I believe we all need self worth, that is that we mean something to somebody, which we all are somebody through Christ instead.

Our worth comes from our identity with Christ. It is in Him that we live and breathe. We are new creations b/c of Him. We are His masterpiece created to do good works ordained before the dawn of time. We are a part of His body and exist for others in that body.
