Sunday Brunch is on my to read list!

I'm reading "Queen of Babble Gets Hitched" by Meg Cabot. It's some light fluffy reading after the last few books I've read.

I haven't read that series, but I have read Cabot's series about the former teenage singer who has gone back to college and keeps getting involved in mysteries. I thought my DD#1, 19, might like that one because she likes mysteries and really wants to read about younger heroines (in their twenties). Unfortunately she didn't get much into that series because she doesn't like the "voice" of the main character (written in the first person POV). It also bothered me that the character is an assistant dorm manager and thereby has responsibility for the kids living there (don't remember the exact title) but she has a very liberal "tolerant" attitude about the students hooking up.

Great, if you've never read it before, read God Word trustingly, and regularly remembering that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Bible's central and glorious theme: things will happen!

God bless.

Good for you, teach4him. We're never too old or too young to read the Bible.

I'm currently reading:
The Fine Art of Mentoring, by Ted W. Engstrom
Jesus Life Coach, by Laurie Beth Jones
Burn Brightly Without Burning Out: Balancing your Career with the Rest of Your Life, by Richard K. Biggs
Kingdom Ethics: Following Jesus in Contemporary Context, by Glen H. Stassen & David P. Gushee

DB49,

Good morning, I see you are reading a Vamp series. Have you checked out Anne Rice's Vampire series? If not you may enjoy it.

I'm not a Vamp reader buff myself but I am tossing around the idea of starting it, A friend of mine says its one of the few Vamp series he liked <shrug>.

You all are reading some really broad titles, its great, I will have to come back here, take some notes and go check out some of these books....first though I think I will need to build a few Bookshelves to make room .

Thank you for posting that. I had contemplated picking up that series but I wasn't sure about it. I like the Queen of Babble series because it reminds me of the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella (again, fluffy reading.)

Well, I'm currently reading like I don't know how many books. I always carry them with me on each flight, regardless how long or short the flight is. Maybe I don't have time to read during the flight, otherwise I might have time during transit or in the hotel.

The books are: The Bible, "Every young woman's battle" workbook, "Completely Loved: recognizing God's passionate pursuit of us" and "With all their heart". Now I'm still very new at Christianity that I feel I don't deserve to call myself a Christian. Not yet anyway. And I'm also the type who reads a book from beginning to end and doesn't just read a part here and a part there. So to jump into a particular part in the Bible is a bit weird for me. There are some people looking funny at me when I'm reading the Bible inflight, but I don't care cause I want to read it and I want to learn more about God, Jesus, being a Christian. I've made some personal decisions to lead a more Christian life, but it's not easy. I live in a Muslim country cause I work for an airline there. They are very respectful and I'm respectful towards their religion, culture and traditions. But I miss my time as an exchange student in Jonesboro, Arkansas where a good friend of mine took me to her Church and I joined their Bible Study which was so interesting. It's a pity I wasn't so active in pursuing a relationship with God back then and could have received the guidance I need now. But on a brighter note: my holiday is coming up and going to Jonesboro for a few days and one thing I'll be doing for sure is going to that Church for Bible Study and Worship and definitely plan on asking for guidance and help. Yeah me
And then are some books by James Patterson which I'm reading: "Saving the world and other extreme sports" and another one

posting cold.

I'm waiting on the last volume of Terry Goodkind's "sword of truth" series. The first book is "wizards first rule". He builds a very detailed and complex world. This is a swords and sorcery type series. Warning: each paperback is about 800 pages (there's 10 books I think) and once you start one you won't want to put it down.

I'm reading Stephen R Donaldson's "Fatal revenant" Which is teh second book of the third portion of "the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever". The first book of the first series is "Lord Foul's Bane" IN my opinion he writes even better than Goodkind.

I'm also reading R. C. Sproul's "The Holiness of God". So far a very good read.

The Gilgamesh

The Puppet Masters Robert A Heinlein. Haven't read any sf in quite a while, or any Heinlein in a while longer than that. I'd forgotten how good a story he used to write.

I had to read The Epic of Gilgamesh a few of months ago since I'm teaching world literature. Glad I read the whole thing finally, but I doubt I'll do it again. Also had to read The Egyptian Book of the Dead: Papyrus of Ani. Am currently rereading the Illiad and the Odyssey and will move on to various works of Sophocles and on and on. This is not my idea of fun, my friends, but I'm reading it and getting something out of it. Not too thrilled about rereading Sophocles, but hey, I might get a lot more out of it than I did in high school or college. I actually liked The Scarlet Letter when I had to reread it to teach American Lit.

I agree that it's an easy read, and it is certainly interesting in light of the Biblical story.

One thing that's made reading these works so tedious is having to brush up on the corresponding history since I'm teaching western civ. concurrently. Plus, I've been pretty busy this last summer and didn't get to do my usual reading for the following school year, so I've had to buzz through this stuff.

I'm just glad my daughter is enjoying reading these works. If she didn't, then it would really be tough.

It's a thinkers book. I am about a third of the way thru--got it from the library and will have to renew it to finish. I may buy a copy because it is a book that I will want to go back to from time to time I think.

Trudging through the Apocrypha in my Revised English Bible. I'm counting on it getting better when I get to Maccabees.

On deck is the NT along with Jesus of Nazareth by J. Klausner. Its in almost every bibliography of books about Jesus I've read, so I thought it'd be about time to read it. Its been staring at me from my shelf for months now.

Hello John O,

Yes, Terry goodkinds "Sword of Truth" Series is Fantastic! I stopped reading it after the 4th book as I could tell he was going to catch Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series so decided to just wait till he was done then buy them and read them without having to wait!

I hate the waiting...lol. I'm like that with Series as well, like Stargate SG-1, CSI, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Babylon 5.

I wait till they are close to done then get them so I can read them without having to wait and no commercials! lol

Just started The Shattered Oath by Josepha Sherman. The beginning was weak, but it has picked up a little.

I just read A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott. It wasn't published for over 100 years after she wrote it, as it was deemed too sensational for time. I couldn't put it down.

I loved Gilgamesh! The straight translation was a bit harder but the paraphrase versions are really fast reads. Their creation story is really interesting too.

I'm still reading the same stuff but added Duane's Depressed (continuation of the Last Picture Show) and The Book Borrower to the mix.

Cloud Atlas is good, but I keep losing track of it.
