Deb and I got to church late today because first the paratransit only allowed 10 minutes to get us boarded and driven to church if they were to have had a chance of getting us there at our requested time. They also arrived late here so we did miss the start of adult Sunday school.

Our associate pastor was supposed to have been leading the class today but he wasn't there, so they had combined the two adult classes into one. Afterwards we learned that the church van had broken down with the pastor and his family on the way back from visiting a ministry in a neighboring state.

For next week I'll ask for a little earlier time to get to church...even though that might translate into the paratransit getting us there a hour early. But, as they say, better early early than not at all.

Too bad you have to do that. Sounds like it might work though.

Because our associate pastor didn't get to teach his lesson today it might be that he'll teach next week and the other 3 teachers in this series (including me) will each move back a week. We'll find out later this week.

I wouldn't mind having an extra week to prepare. Usually I teach on a book of the Bible. This time it will be on a subject, with the need to do research from materials other than Bible study materials. I'm glad I'll just be doing one Sunday this time instead of a month of Sundays.

You'll do well, John. I'll admit, though: I prefer going through a book of the Bible verse-by-verse.

Merv got a compliment on his teaching today. One of the regulars in our class is teaching 5th and 6th grade, so she's not able to be with us right now. I told her we missed her and she said she misses the class too. She said she's really enjoyed the in depth Bible study. Sometimes it's hard to tell what people are thinking, so it was nice to hear that. He works us pretty hard in that class and we weren't sure if folks were thinking it was too much.

I think people are hungry for the Word rather than the feel-good, pop psychology, experience-oriented pablum that's out there these days. That's why people appreciate teachers like Merv and John. So much of Christian teaching treats Scripture as merely a springboard for topics, instead of delving into the Bible itself. Very sad. We've forgotten what a rich treasure God's Word is!

Amen to that Deb! God's Word is indeed a treasure, and we'll never be able to learn all there is from it.

I just got some exciting email from my niece, who got married 5 1/2 years ago. She's pregnant! I'm so excited and happy! All my friends are grandparents, so I felt left out. Okay, a great nephew or niece isn't quite the same, but it's close enough for me!

YAY, DebbieLynne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is so cool! And I understand it being close to grandkids for you! The two to whom I'm an aunt are like my own to me..and so their kids would be special to me too (that day is afar off, they are young....I'm just saying)..there has been times I've been very glad I didn't have kids of my own, so that I could put so much into those two.

Me either. Someday, but my boys aren't ready now.

I'm in no rush for my 18-year-old niece to be a mommy, but the one who's expecting is 31. And my 92-year-old mom really should have a great-grandchild, I think. Naturally, she's thrilled!

We don't have that option for church. Even though our church is in the next town, there's no direct bus. We'd have to go to Quincy, and get a connecting bus to church. A two-hour trip to a church four miles away. We've done it twice, but it's not fun.

Hey, Deb!

Wow, nothing quite like being on a caffeine buzz when you're tired. I wanna sleep. I don't think it's going to happen any time soon.

Hi Kristin. Glad you keep busy, though. That's good.

I'm trying to blog more lately. Of course, I'm not sure how widely read my blog is, but I think it's good for me to keep up my writing skills.

I read it.
