Just wondering, what do you think God (whom I came to know as the Father of all orphans and the Giver of life) thinks about surrogacy. I tried to figure it out from the Bible but nothing contradicts it so far. I mean surrogacy as in a woman who carries a baby from the genetic material of a wife-husband couple and delivers him/her.
How do you think the Lord sees this?

Just a thought. But you might want to put this under "Morality and Ethics."

Surrogacy was practiced in Old Testament times (Sarah used a surrogate mother - Haggai for Abraham to have a child).

However, I do not believe that it is the will of God, hence the problems that followed. Some He blesses with children, and some He does not.

Man has a habit of playing God and changing the natural order of such things. This, I believe is because of our pride and our selfishness. Pride because we think we can go against the natural order, and selfishness because we believe that it is our right. It isn't. A child is a gift.

Psalm 127:3

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

There already is a one-stop thread for this in the 'Morality & Ethics' sub-forum.

Thank you for posting. maybe the moderators will move this as I really didn't find a better place for the thread.

As far as 'However, I do not believe that it is the will of God, hence the problems that followed. Some He blesses with children, and some He does not. ' I am aware that all children are a gift from God and Sarah's decision was definitely not a happy one (that's why we have so many problems in the Middle East today). But this is about a couple trying for years and years of painful treatment and the sinful world we live in - where a mom can't carry her own baby because of miscarriages. They're both devout Christians, does their infertility mean they're not loved or God does not want to give this gift to them?
I'm not trying to argue I'm just saying what goes on in my mind after having two wonderful 'gifts' myself.

I do not believe for a minute that it has anything to do with God not loving them or not wanting to give them children.......only God knows what is going on, He knows the "whys." He knows the perfect timing for everything. Trusting Him and His timing can always be hard, but He will give this couple peace and strength.

Surrogacy seems to be somewhat supported in the bible. Zilpah and Bilhah were surrogates for Leah and Rachel, and nowhere is there any biblical condemnation of their acts.

Surrogacy can be a tool God uses to bring about His will. But, as with many good things, we can be disobedient and use this method when it wasn't what God wanted. Surrogacy isn't the bad thing... us wanting what we want is the bad thing. And as for the Bible, I can see where some were disobedient using surrogacy and it backfired. Is that the fault of surrogacy? No. It's the fault of the people.
