I have internet from my cable company and have speeds of 5MPPS. I have been considering taking an offer from my phone company to switch back, but their speed is only 3MPPS instead.
As you may already know, DSL is slower depending on how far you are from the main office. Also, when I had my phone companies DSL, they were only streaming at 1.5MPPS or less and when going to places such as Myspace, songs wouldn't play so well.
My question is whether 3MPPS or less is sufficient or if I should just stick with my cable provider instead?

I just have plain dsl and I don't even know what speed it is. It's fine for you tube videos.
Although it might hang if you have an older computer. My laptop I got 2 or 3 years ago plays them much better than the old one did.

Keep in mind that when the phone companies advertize DSL speeds they are giving you a ceiling, not a guaranteed speed. If you never got more than 1.5 megs/sec before, unless they had built a new center closer to you, you most likely won't get more than that now. I'd ask about this before I switched, as they will forward all the reasons why you can't get a faster connection, AFTER you get the DSL installed, but they are reticent about all that before you make the jump. I know this from experience.
The only dsl speeds where we live are 750kilos, and you tube is noticeably more shaky, than on our 3-5 meg/sec cable internet connection.

When I switched to Cable they asked me if they doubled the speed to 3 MPPS if I would stay? I said no as I was getting a good promotion from the cable company.
I am still thinking it over, I am not sure if I will switch back or not at all.
