I've gone anywhere from 12 to 32 pounds with our turkeys. And being that we buy organic or natural....the turkey is expensive....Oy!

I usually buy whatever turkey I can get for $5 at Safeway. Usually it's about 12 lbs.

I get a free one from one of the supermarkets for spending half my paycheck there. Their limit is 22 lbs. so that's what it usually weighs.

That sounds like a deal....22 lbs is a really good size for our family. I only did about 12-15 lbs last year and regretted it, not having enough leftovers.

Well, because of finances, looks like a 15 to 18 pounder this year. I ordered it yesterday. It's expensive because I get the all natural, with no hormones, antibiotics, and no feed containing animals. Wish I could have gotten around 22 pounds.

A great big one so there's enough to feed everyone AND enough for sandwiches and turkey soup! It's probably 20-22 pounds.

One year I did a 32 pound organic turkey. (Yes, it was terrifyingly expensive, but, lots of leftovers.) Can't afford that this year. Lest we give up other foods and eat turkey for two solid weeks every single meal....Don't think that idea would go over big with the kidlings.

Haha - this one's easy - last year, all but myself and another housemate had left for Thanksgiving - so we bought two thick turkey slices and cooked 'em on the George Foreman grill and had enough side dishes to feed 10 people.

This year, all but the two of us will be leaving town again - but some friends (one happens to be like a gourmet chef) invited us over since it will be just the two of them - so we'll be headin' to their house.

That makes things easy! I'll pick my turkey up today and report back as to the poundage.

Because I make homemade soups and use leftovers, we always buy a 26-28 lb turkey and a small ham. We also have turkey at Christmas. :0) We love it all year!

I can't figure out a turkey soup. I tried a couple times, but I was the only one who had interest in it and it was so bland I gave up. My grandmother apparantly makes a REALLY good turkey soup. Mom says she just can't duplicate it.
