For me, here are a few:

1.) Race - first half Black President. No matter how I feel about Obama's politics, I think it's awesome that America has crossed a racial barrier in high leadership. It means something special to the heart of many people.

2.) Leftist/Socialist/Radical Paradigm Shift - whether the U.S. is taken to the far "Left" from here on out remains to be seen, but clearly the politics of the Dem party have been more left-leaning than I can personally remember (with the exception of maybe the Kennedy era - but I wasn't around then)...

3.) Possible Death of the Mainstream Media - I don't often like Sean Hannity, but his point that the mainstream media has died in 2008 has some resonance here. I have seen so much hype and lofty eloquent speaking from Obama without fair mainstream media scrutiny of his background and politics. He seemed like an untouchable rock-star type figure that arose out of nowhere. It was interesting and amazing to watch. Time will tell if the hype and speeches can be measured up to with actions and results.

4.) My first election in which I carefully analyzed and was interested in every minute detail of the candidates and their politics. ...A re-emergence of interest in national politics. I can't help but feel a sense of energy and interest in the country and people's lives around me. Whether it's the Obama effect or not, I cannot tell. But I do feel a sense of excitement and involvement I've not felt or had before.

More thoughts to come later...

We wanted Change well we got it. Now can we live with the Change that is coming.
Some results from this election
1. More Babies will Die
2. No longer will the left decry this nation as totally racist as we have just elected the first Black Man to the highest office.
3. This country will take a radical turn left which I doubt it will ever recover
4. A deeply divided country that Obama will not be able to unite. He has the House the Senate and the Courts he has no reason to reach across to the right.
5. The Mid-east in turmoil since he will be willing to sit down with terrorist, (If you give a mouse a cookie to quote one of my fav movies)
6. An economy in shambles, we just put the people responsible for the current economic situation in an absolute power situation and you know what they say about absolute power

Yes I know I'm a pessimist but in 4 years if I'm wrong you can all tell me you told me so, but until then I will be praying for Mercy from God for the US forsaking Him, while recognizing He is absoultly Just in bringing judgment on this nation.

When I think about this election I realize that John McCain did not do enough to seperate himself from George W. People are heated and I believe that most of this election was based on emotion and excitement. When we wake up in 2 years I imagine that most of the nation will have regretted whom they placed in office.

Jesus have mercy on us.

This election meant a lot for me. It has opened my eyes to the world of politics and made me realize that I need to be aware of the issues that's happening in my Country.
As far as race goes, I'm excited and can't begin to even write how I feel knowing that America is such a great place where it doesn't matter what race you are you can be President! Obama win inspires me to want to get out and help others achieve their dreams. I hope that instead of feeling upset and leaving negative comments because your candidate didn't win, that all Americans get down and pray the Lord will touch his heart and help him lead this great Nation!

My reflections or maybe it's something I can't understand is the wierd and strange adoration that people have for Obama. I've never felt that way about anyone in my life. I think he could start a cult and get people to drink poisoned koolaid.

1) We finally have a black President. This is a turning point for our country
2) Abortion was a moot point issue, as usual. Maybe people finally figured out that politicians only pay that issue lipservice, and even then, only during election time.
3) We got the people who were responsible for the current economic crisis OUT of office; not in. Admittedly, Bush was just the icing on the cake (though it was a heck of a lot of icing), but over 20 years of deregulation and the same two families (and years of a Republican congress) are to blame.
4) A brief (at least, I hope its brief) resurgance in popularity of biased-and-lie-filled Republican media mongers like Limbaugh and Hannity who care more about their paychecks than the country they "serve." (and for the record, I consider Keith Oberman fits that same category; just from the other side of the asile.)
5) John McCain gave one of the BEST and most sincere concession speeches of all time. My hat goes off to him.
6) We FINALLY have a Christian President, even if we don't agree with all of his stances. Let's get behind him, or we WILL watch this country tumble.

Agreed. It was gracious, honest, sincere, and humble. I saw tears in the man's eyes.

I did not vote for him, did not want him to win, and disliked certain parts of his policies if he were to be elected.

BUT - unlike George W. Bush, McCain is an honorable man.

I salute this true American patriot. Thank you, Senator McCain, for a lifetime of service to the great United States of America.

I now have a firm belief that black people will vote for a black candidate just because they are black no matter what they stand for.

Which is something else I don't understand. I'm hispanic and I don't vote for candidates just because they are also.

Whatever, newsflash, it wasn't just black people who voted for Obama. In fact people of all races voted for him! Jeez, some people. You should go back and listen to McCain's speech! He was very noble.

I do agree, McCain's speech was very touching!

I don't think he would have won without the black vote. Black people were asked if race was an issue and they said yes. Don't get mad because it's true.

don't generalize that much. I think when people are hopeless and in need and someone comes along and basically says "I'm gonna be your savior" then they will vote for them.

For many of us the last 8 years have been very good. For others it hasn't been. For those in the inner city it hasn't been any better or worse but Obama is charismatic. Obama is stepping in where many of the churches have failed. Like Sue44 said this is a judgement on the church in America. We missed the call and now many will miss the cross.

McCain's concession speech was very moving and well done. It's the most sincere that I've seen him during this election season.

I'm also impressed that he isn't waiting until all of the poll results are in and demanding a recount. That shows a lot of class as well.

I don't think I'm generalizing at all. Just stating facts. Black people will tell you themselves.

No don't get mad because you are acting childish. Lol, that's funny but I'm going to let you think what you think. It doesn't matter to me, I know why I voted so that all that matter. So go ahead be negative that still won't change that Obama is the next President. As Christians I would hope that people wouldn't be so negative. I'll make sure I pray for you tonight!

Al Gore got 90% of the black vote in 2000. Whatever Obama got, it can't be too much better than 90%.

To me...this election means the rise and fall of another nation, like so many before us. It's a wake-up call to start witnessing like never before. I will no longer be complacent.

You would have to be a black person who lived back in the 1950's to be able to so appreciate what Obama represents to black people. If you saw the tears in the eyes of the older black americans yesterday, you would understand and have compassion.

I am African and live in Africa so whoever is President of the US has near zero impact on me, my country or my continent. However I have followed this year's elections from the beginning. I am happy that Obama won. Normally I "support" the republicans because I learnt from this forum that christians should vote republican no matter what cuz they are "morally" better than democrats, but this time around I wanted Obama to win for the simple reason that he is minority. If a woman/hispanic/native american was running, I would most likely prefer they win just because it's a different face from the past presidents. One reason why we africans have been really interested in elections taking place far far away from us is not just because Obama is black (Most african presidents are black and we don't care too much for them) but it's because it has been demonstrated again that America is really the land of possibilities. So I say to Americans on this forum, "drop the our nation will fall cause a liberal is in power and instead pray for your country and leaders and the whole world really especially because the Bible says we should".

I have read from this forum that children will continue to die cuz democrats are in power etc well children continued to die while Bush was in power so it's not such a great argument
