I started communication with a guy on eHarmony this weekend- sent him the initial 5 questions. He responded and sent 5 of his own. Problem is... I didn't have time to respond and now the free communication is over. I can't afford to pay the fee at this time. Now he is going to think I dropped off the planet/am no longer interested. Wonderful.

Yeah. I hate when that happens.
But I'll talk to you for free. ;)

Can you put a note in your profile that you are not a member of eharmony and can no longer respond (no need to get into the fee situation)? I think that you can edit it even if you are not a paying member. At least you'd be able to let him know why you can no longer communicate.

Geeky, my long lost twin sister! NIce to see you back!

I have no clue what you should do, lol. I feel for you though. How about praying that God would lead you to the person one day, or learn that when you're communicating with someone you like, try giving him your email address early on, just in case something happens.

Not sure eHarmony allows that, but it's worth a try. =)

just a tip to others to include an email address if you're only doing a free trial ... there are lots of sites like hotmail, yahoo, etc that give free emails so you could even use that as an option ... it's probably a good idea to do anyways in case the other person is in a free trial period too ...

geeky1 - can u just sign up for another free trial? does eHarmony use real names or aliases or some coded name? if an alias or real name, you might be able to find him through some googling as they may have used same alias or similiar on other dating sites including free ones like pof or okc ...

You use whatever username you choose, whether your real name or a pseudonym. Geeky1 would have to create an entirely new account, I believe.

However, there're usually several different promo codes available. Maybe trying another one of those would gain her a few more free months.

Yes, the Googles, they can help! ;o)

Geeky1,
I agree: the service can be too expensive for what you get out of it. (I didn't get that many matches to begin with. And I prefer getting to know people face to face first and then using the 'net to aid in continuing the already established communication, rather than the reverse.)

Including an e-mail address in your profile violates the TOS on most for-pay dating sites. Not a good example for Christians to set. Plus, from my own experience, if a woman included an e-mail address in her profile, I didn't communicate with her, both because it was a violation of the TOS and because I was annoyed that she was trying to get around paying for the service I was paying for.

skrey, i was referring to the fact that once you open communication with someone, you should transition off the dating site to avoid what happened with OP or any other glitches ... any pay site is going to monitor against putting in your profile so that's not really a valis suggestion ... also people signing up for trials and not paying still helps out the company, many just tout numbers of users, not caring how active they are ...

Ah. Sorry for the confusion on my part. You are correct in that.
However, in her case, it won't help, because she was only on the 5 mult. choice questions stage, and you can't send any unscripted information until the second or third stage, whcih she hadn't reached before her trial ran out.

Non-paid profiles may help the company, but not other users, if they are just black-hole profiles that can never respond.

thank you for letting me know how eHarmony works (i only had vague ideas until you posted more indepth and i did a little googling just now) ... i guess using a common alias, that you use elsewhere might be the only way ... i guess that is eHarmony's plan to strand people in the middle of the process that is going to realistically take more than 36 hours to complete ... so it sounds like it's definately not a friendly place to sample with a trial membership if you aren't able to pay afterwards unlike some other sites that offer trials and you do have time to find a match ...

You can post a message in the anything else you want them to know section telling them that you are also a member of the eharmony advice boards (it's free) and what your user name there is. That way if they want to find you there they can. This is allowed since it is an eharmony site.
