My daughter, TL, is using Mavis Beacon Typing. She's doing fine in it, but today I was looking around on-line to find out how to grade her. I had forgotten that a typing course isn't only about keyboard skills. It's about learning to type correspondance and other things as well. It's a business course. Now I'm thinking I ought to increase what she is learning in order to give her a grade and use it on a transcript. Have any of you done this? Can you fill me in on your approach?

I was buzzing thru and saw this, hope you don't mind... DeeDee is in PS / 5th grade and takes keyboarding (which uses something like Mavis) and she is graded on her typing speed and accuracy. They set goals and it is if they reach them or not, but it is pass/fail. I am considering buying a 'how to create word documents' book and have used my college typing textbook with the kids. They only used it thru the home row and not creating documents, per se because the idea of centering a word by spacing in to space 40 and hitting backspace once for every two letters just doesn't work with a computer. BigBee is in high school, and would have to request typing. When I took it it was graded based on the number of words per minute - the work wasn't accepted if it wasn't accurate. I am remembering more than helping, but I wanted to share that her PS used the term Keyboarding for what your little one is doing now and treats it as a different class.

That makes sense to call it keyboarding if it's just learning to type, but not the business forms or any of that. I don't know if I could actually give her a grade for it.

I looked it up - she needs 25 WPM at 90% accuracy (and is using Mavis) I sent you a FIM, my dear. Now, I will allow you to await the wisdom of the BTDT crew.
