2 of what drink?

I have to smile here though - in the other thread your wife said your limit was 1 if you were driving

What does it matter? 1 mixed drink, i wine, and one beer all have the same alcohol percentage. Usually I do have one, occasionally I have maxed out at 2. And that is if we are at our favorite pub. By the wayitis usually beer. I only like the real stuff, either imported or microbrewed.

I don't know about in the US (presuming that's where you are?), but in the UK glass sizes vary, and so so strengths of beers.

I get really nervous about driving even after 1 beer. If I have to drive, I don't think I've ever gone beyond 1 drink.

So, no I never drink and drive. It's a bit like Russian roulette, just with someone else's life along with your own.

Just my non-committed opinion :)

Didn't you start this thread another time after a "Alcohol?" thread was renewed?

But not the same effect - which varies further depending on the person.

Haven't a clue, miasma!

I started this one because a question I asked in the other thread wasn't answered, and I thought the topic merited a thread of its own.

I have a friend from Finland and she will not drive if she has had even a sip of wine and I do mean one sip, not a glass.

Apparently, in Finland, there is an extreme zero tolerance for driving after drinking anything. There is no first or second chances. She said that public transportation is available for free or severe discounts for those having more than one drink. She also said that is why a lot of people walk everywhere. I just thought that was interesting...

Back to the OP...I do not get drunk and drive, but yes I have driven after having a drink of some kind.

i don't have a car in nyc

but seriously, i have driven before after i've had a drink or two.

I usually drink beer or mixed drinks when out with friends, I don't tend to like the hard stuff

so, my max would be 2 pints of beer, or 2 glasses of wine, or 3 mixed fruity drinks (except martini's...2 max of those), 3 glasses of champagne, any thing containing vodka-only 2, 2 if it's kaluah,

1 if it's rum or whiskey or scotch

so basically 2 or 3 drinks is my max. it usually takes me 5 or 6 of anything to feel tipsy, and i rarely drink that much in public anyway. i prefer to drink at home.

I rarely drink, but will sometimes have a margarita or two at a Mexican restaurant. On New Year's I might have a drink or two *at home*. I can't remember the last time I had more than two drinks in one day.

I do not drive after drinking anything, with one exception. Let's say I drank x drinks, with x most likely being 1 or 2. If it has been more than x hours since the last sip, then I would consider myself able to drive. Odds are, I still wouldn't drive, b/c my wife probably would since she drinks even less often than I do (and unless we are at home, we never both drink at the same time), but if it came down to it, I would feel comfortable driving.

Even when I do drink, I drink pretty slowly, so it's possible that the first drink has burned off by the time I finish the second. So, waiting two hours rather than one is pretty conservative.

I agree with miasma that one drink (serving) affects each person differently; factors can also include circumstances, like food consumption with alcohol, and if the drink is sipped over long period of time or taken as a shot. You can't generalize about "n" drinks always being too much to drive with.

Because I always eat when I have a drink out and sip it over a long period of time, I have no problem with driving after having one drink- ever- no matter what type of alcohol it is. If I have had two drinks- or one large drink that contains two servings- which is rare, I will evaluate based on how long it has taken me to drink those two drinks. If I have two in one hour, I wouldn't drive. If I had two over a 5 hour period, I would drive.

I don't know if your (American) units are the same as our British ones, but the figure I know of over here is that it takes the liver one hour to process and eliminate one unit of alcohol (half a pint of normal strength beer) from the body. So it could actually take far longer than you think for your system to be free of the influence of alcohol.

With respect, all alcohol by its very nature has some effect on performance. It is a depressant and therefore under its influence drivers can misjudge their capabilities.

There were some controlled tests done in the UK by the police, with driving simulators, and it was found that even half a pint of beer has an effect on things like reaction times, vision, tracking, coordination and comprehension.

I have 1 time, as a teen.
As an adult, no I do not drive if I have had any amount of alcohol.
If I drink alcohol, its either at home, & no need to drive. Or out to dinner with my hubby. He doesn't drink, so he drives.

I grew up the 1st 11 yrs. of my life with alcoholic parents, who didn't care to drive with any amount of alcohol in them. They never cared if my brother & I were with them either. As a result of that kind of lifestyle, she was killed in a car wreck.

I realize the thread isn't about alcoholics, but thats 1 reason why I wouldn't drink & drive.

No, I do not. I can only handle one drink as it is, so I definitely wouldn't drive after. I only have a drink (which isn't very often) if I'm staying home or not the driver.

It is essentially the same here, but there can be other factors, including if you are drinking on an empty stomach and how much you weigh.

Having worked in a treatment center with people that have been convicted of alcohol related crimes (mostly DUI), people tend overestimate their ability to drive after they have been drinking. You may be drive ok, but if you were pulled over within an hour of drinking two pints and tested, you would likely be over the limit of .07 BAC (DUI) if you were under 220 pounds. If you are over that, you would probably be ok, though you may be charged with a lesser offense (such as impaired driving).

What makes you think "they be wronged"? (are you a pirate btw? )
