When I click on "Next unread subscription" I get to a message that says that this message has been deleted and therefore can't be read.

But the flag that says I have an unread subcription doesn't get cleared.

I don't know whether this is a an unreported bug, a previously reported bug, or something else. And there are too many posts in the bug report topic for me to wade through all of them to see if one of them already comments on this "feature".

I managed to access the deleted or moved thread by another pathway.

Then I clicked on "Remove subscription". That made the "Next Unread Subscription" marker go away.

Problem solved!

When a lot of posts get deleted in a thread resulting in it going back a page, this situation happens.

Like you said, the way to solve it is to figure out which thread it is, then unsubscribe and resubscribe to the thread.
