Tape measure: X-rays detected from Scotch tape
NEW YORK — Just two weeks after a Nobel Prize highlighted theoretical work on subatomic particles, physicists are announcing a startling discovery about a much more familiar form of matter: Scotch tape. It turns out that if you peel the popular adhesive tape off its roll in a vacuum chamber, it emits X-rays. The researchers even made an X-ray image of one of their fingers.
Who knew? Actually, more than 50 years ago, some Russian scientists reported evidence of X-rays from peeling sticky tape off glass. But the new work demonstrates that you can get a lot of X-rays, a study co-author says.
"We were very surprised," said Juan Escobar. "The power you could get from just peeling tape was enormous."

Great, this makes doing school projects in a vacuum chamber that much more hazardous to your health.

I wonderif this will lower health insurance rates?
I bet you could do an MRI with a really big roll of duck tape.

I suspect Jack knows this  But MRIs do not use X-rays or any kind of ionizing radiation - nice and safe so long as you don't have metal plate in your head.

My grandpappy always said you could do anything with duct tape, and I believed him, particularly after he built a flux capacitor for his tractor, which propelled him back to the 17th century, where he died after discovering the Hudson Bay (which wasn't difficult to discover, since he was born there in 1889).
True story.

I wonder if the Docs would let me use duct tape to expose the x-ray film when I need an x-ray and save some money......

Well... I think they'd expect you to supply the vacuum chamber too, and they're a little cumbersome to carry around.
