The story didn't say, but here a voter can select to vote straight ticket. I don't know what happens if you make that choice on the first selection and then try to override it later without changing the original.

I didn't see it mentioned in this article. I know in my state that's the case as well, but listening to the radio and an election officer was answering questions referring to voting and said that it differs from state to state. In the article, however, it doesn't mention that.

This is concerning, but it is likely some sort of technical glitch and not foul play. You'd have to be really, really, really stupid to rig a vote machine in a way that showed the voter it was rigged.

That said, I'm opposed to the use of such machines, period. The mere possibility of undetectable rigging disqualifies them in my opinion. I agree with one of the people in the article. What's wrong with paper ballots? Or for that matter, the old mechanical machines?

They don't meet the needs of the fourth estate and their desire for instant results.

People from Florida are too stupid to use paper votes, did you all forget 2000?

I don't like anything that doesn't leave some kind of a trace. I prefer the paper.

Since the machines are EASILY hackable I think the authorities should definitely be looking into it. It could be that the issue is showing up not on purpose but because the hack wasn't written properly. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately if not sooner.

BTW, I like the paper ballots, too, but how do you think they are counted? Yup, by the same machines that are easily hackable.

Like I said in another thread, America is very quickly moving to Banana Republic status in election fraud...

I can see a liberal government just totally doing away with voting. Voting/voter fraud allegations may be the last nail in the coffin of democracy.

More likely it would be used as a pretext for nationwide voting "reform". Which would probably include the ability to register and vote on Election Day, and other weakening of vote integrity safeguards. And don't forget measures to pave the way for illegal immigrants to be able to vote!

I fear relady is right about the Banana Republic thing.

Really?... because I see it th other way around under a strict conservative government... oh wait they've alreay been in the process of doing that through voter suppression and voter intimidation (but there's already a thread about that so I'll stick on topic)....

It seems pretty simple. Vote for one and it tallies your vote correctly. Maybe they should use the polling software that we use here. I've never seen a problem with them mis-tallying votes!

The software engineers must be real geniuses! Good thing they didn't have to design something with a little more complexity like a word processing program or even worse, a video game!
