A pastor tells a congregation member that they are not welcome in the praise band because it is not a jam session. The member is a professional musician who has a tremendous gift from God in his craft. Was this pastor creating a rift by not considering this person's gift as a true offering? Same pastor tells another congregation member that a wake is not for those who will be attending the funeral itself. This second congregation member had proposed something to the pastor for the widow that the pastor shot down without a moment's hesitation. Was the pastor trying to keep this person away from the widow by lying? Same pastor uses these same two congregation members for menial tasks having to do with church functions. Is this pastor being unfair in his allowance for these two members to participate fully?

The situatins you pose are way to vague for an honest response. The best answer I can give is that it depends; depends on the musician, his spirituality, his demeaner (does he worship God, or draw attention to himself) does he work well with others including the leader of the music, etc. etc. The same with the funeral situations; what was it the guy wanted to tell the wife that the Pastor "Shot down", Was it off the wall stuff, was it appropriate or what? Does the Pastor 'Use" these folks for small duties, or do the folks volunteer for them? You give some specifics and I will answer in the same manner. Thanks RC

I was intentionally vague as I didn't want to violate TOS, however unintentionally. The musician is recently of the church, but is a lifelong acquaintance of the pastor. The second congregation member wanted to suggest that the widow have the funeral director cut a lock of her husband's hair [which she braided every day] for lockets for her and her children. Yes, they do volunteer [after being asked]

I am sure the Pastor had a good reason or he would probably welcome an accomplished musician. I would not give permission to someone who wanted to suggest that to a grieving widow, it might be alright in some circles, but it seems a little morbid to me. Most couples discuss between themselves what they want done if one of them departs; so I would suggest to let it be. Just my opinion. Thanks RC

Thank you RC. I asked for opinions and I'm blessed you gave yours. I hadn't considered that some might think a lock of hair was a morbid idea. Like you say, different circles, different trains of thought. And Re: The musician - he was asked today to present a solo song in church on a future Sunday. Surprised me a lot [and him too], but it was what many were praying for. Maybe its the beginning of the end of a growing personal rift. Praise the Lord!

Aren't we forgiven of our past sins? When we pray to the Father to ask for his forgiveness? Why in the world if someone has said they are sorry for their faults do we still need to think we have to pay them pay a severe or anything pentality for it. Are we not act like God who the Psalmist wrote;" he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. It would and myself included in the picture, to forgive others has he has forgiven them.
