Are any of y'alls churches participating in "Operation Christmas Child"? The "shoebox" missions program operated by Samaritan's Purse?

For us, it's a major initiative led by our church's Global Outreach ministry.....with well over 35,000 boxes collected from the members of our church....

Haven't heard of Operation Christmas child? http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/occ/ (kind of late to start on it this year, I would think....but, you can probably still get together with another area church who is already doing it this year.....and/or just plan on doing it next year!)

just wondering if anyone else does this.....

We are doing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We a very small Anglican church in a small community in northern Saskatchewan Canada. It's a great program and a privilege to take part in it.

Our Church takes part! It is a great ministry, we collect the needed items throughout the year, and then do a couple of fundraisers for the shipping cost. We had a special service and dinner a couple of weeks ago to raise the last of the funds.

It is a good way to get the entire Church behind a missions project, everyone can take part when they donate the items or wrap the boxes.

One of the couples from our congregation goes each year to help at the center to get them sent. My wife and I had planned to go this year, but they said they had enough volunteers! That is a great problem to have.

We are a small rural Church, we are a few short of your 35K...

We've done it for many years. When my kids were little, I took them to shop for the boxes and they loved it. My son took a boy box and my daughter took a girl box. Great organization.

The Bible study my BFF and I host on Friday nights did it. We picked a girl. It was so fun watching 6 teenage/young adult men going to the school supply isle and picking out what would be appropriate for a girl.

We had fun and I would like to do more next year.

My husband was best man to the British guy who started Operation Christmas Child in 1990, Dave Cooke. Dave handed OCC over to Sam's Purse because he knew they had a wider network of contacts and also were more able to transport the boxes to more destinations and at a lower cost. It's been thrilling to see Dave's original UK venture turn into something so much bigger.

Cool story. It really is an awesome program, and I love how everyone, young and old, Christian, secular, you name it, love to get behind this and make it happen.

the same as my in-laws church.

We happened to be at their church the weekend they were collecting their boxes. All 40 of them.

We were given the opportunity to tell the people of their church what OUR church does (and the logistics of handling the 35,000).....(most everyone knows the church we go to, and the size, since we are located in a major metro area).....and they are always interested in the myriad of missions/ministries that our church initiates and sponsors.

it's great to see churches that are OUR size...along with churches of their size (and all the others in between), ALL DOING exactly the same "ministry/missions project"...

This is an awesome program. I organized this program in our church about 7 years ago and also directed the children's musical written for this program. I can't remember how many boxes our little church came up with but what was sooo cool for me was being at the receiving end this year. Yep, we are missionaries now and I'm sure we received ten fold of what we put out! 1000 boxes came to our area here in Mexico last January and I know that they're coming again this next season. Thank you for giving! At the receiving end they are given strict instructions on how to disperse the boxes and present the gospel :) Great tool!

I agree with everyone, Operation Christmas Child is a wonderful program. I put together some boxes this past weekend and really had a lot of fun doing it. It really makes me appreciate the blessings I've been given when I think that this may be the only Christmas gift the child has ever received. And I love that the program is Christ-centered. Don't forget to pray for the child(ren) who will receive your box(es) if you participate.

Our church does it. It's great.

It's also a great opportunity during the holidays, to teach our girls about giving to those in need as they help us fill the shoeboxes

Yep, doing it this year. Going shopping for the stuff this weekend.

One year, my small church plant did a couple boxes. The women's bible study really took the ministry to heart and between the 5 of us did like 30 boxes. The church (a total of about 50 members at the time) combined our boxes with our "mother church." It was a neat project.

I haven't done it in a couple years. I'm excited to do it again this year.

Everyone take note of the increase in the handling fee. They want $7 instead of $5 this year.

Last year was the first year in a long time that I didn't do this. Unfortunately, I can't do it again this year either. Maybe next year I'll plan things better and be able to participate.
