With $605 million already, Obama asks only $10 more from each of us Having hauled in a record $208,333 every hour of every day last month -- $150 million in all -- plus a few more unreported millions so far this month, Barack Obama is worried that he might come up short in the political money war with the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket. Just to relieve himself of that $150 million before the polls open, Obama will have to spend $12.5 million a day. --- Having now collected more than $605 million altogether, the freshman senator shows no concern over the appearance of buying the presidency. Imagine for a moment the national political conversation that could be going on now if rich Republicans had raked in that much loot for one campaign Source LINK Gotta at least give him credit for that.. well not before you call him a liar about public financing money: Obama's lie LINK

Well, in way McCain did it to himself. He was one of the architects of McCain-Feingold, and he believed Obama was an honest person. Obama's next opponent won't be so trusting.

He's bought an entire half hour of primetime TV to bring a "political message" here in Colorado on network programming (7PM to 7:30PM October 29th, on CBS, NBC, and one of the three FOX stations, if you don't believe me feel free to look up the Denver tvguide.com listings yourself, 80228 will work for a Denver ZIP). Quick check shows that it's going on in Ohio too, so it might be nationwide... So, I guess he's hard at work on the spending thing. Can you imagine the brouhaha that would be going on if a Republican did that? heh. Is it ironic that his proposed "fairness doctrine" would probably make that illegal?

If he's getting that much wealth for his campaign, when's he gonna spread it to the rest of us?

My understanding is his campaign is outspending McCain's something like 3-to-1 or 4-to-1 in advertising? Frankly, if he's spending that much more money, why isn't Obama 12-15 points ahead?

Having more money CONTRIBUTED to your campaign is no guarantee of getting elected. However, as someone who is in marketing & media, to get your message out to the 300+ million voters in America, it DOES take a massive amount of money to undergo a serious campaign....and, there's really no way around that fact.

He would have been a shoe in for President. Then again, that is if, as they say, he'll win because of the broken Economy; Guess it's not true or he missed the boat on this one.

My background is in web development, including e commerce. I agree with your assessment. Either this was done deliberately or it was handled by complete incompetents who didn't have any idea about online security, and they likely would have had to override the settings on their payment processing software in order to allow this. I've been writing credit card processing software myself lately, and I concur. I am not sure even how they would manage this... I was under the impression that the credit card company's own processing servers would balk at a name mismatch, even if you did manage to completely destroy the safety checks on the payment gateway (presumably by creating your own, because I have not yet met a legitimate payment processing gateway that would allow such a thing).

I was looking to see exactly how much Barack's campaign total was, and I mainly find "more than $600 million" but no exact numbers. I was also wondering what happens to the money that wasn't spent and found this article: quote:
Obama’s Secret Campaign Cash: Has $63 Million Flowed from Foreign Sources? A Newsmax canvass of disclosed Obama campaign donors shows worrisome anomalies, including outright violations of federal election laws. The link in LabGuy's post could explain why Barack's campaign deliberately removed stop-checks that would have prevented overseas donations. For example, Obama has numerous donors who have contributed well over the $4,600 federal election limit. Many of these donors have never been contacted by the Obama campaign to refund the excess amounts to them. And more than 37,000 Obama donations appear to be conversions of foreign currency. LINK Many people also donated more than legally allowed. Maybe we need campaign finance reform.

The party that raises less money will always complain about the other's methods. It's just jealousy. If Mc could have done, he would have. Money and advertising will only go so far. Bad advertising will kill a campaign. Just ask Elizabeth Dole, the outgoing Senator from North Carolina.
