Three things:
I agree with Obama on the need for a college football playoff.
I disagree with Obama's proposal but only a little. I would use the four BCS Bowl games as the "first round". Who gets to be in the bowls (conference tie ins and all) would remain the same except that the two teams that now play in the BCS Championship Game would be available. This keeps the big bowl games relevant, perhaps even more so. The winners of the Orange, Sugar, Rose and Fiesta bowls would advance to a four team playoff. The semifinal games would take place on the NFL's divisional playoff weekend. One would be Saturday at Noon, the other Sunday at 8 PM. It is imperative (in my mind at least) to stay away from direct competition with the NFL's playoff games. The new BCS Championship Game would take place the week before the Super Bowl (when the NFL takes the week off). The other possibility would be the Saturday before the conference championship games. That would keep the BCS from drowning in Super Bowl hype.
Third, I hope Obama keeps his advocacy of this to a minimum (like stops now). This really is not an issue requiring Presidential involvement.
Preemptive disclaimer: this goes for a President of any party. Its not like I'd be all for McCain throwing his support behind a College Football playoff system.

I also heard he would get rid of the designated hitter in MLB.
Really, I think Obama missed his calling. Voting for him for President was completely out of the question, but I'd look much more kindly on him being in charge of college football. The whole BCS thing is joke that has long stopped being funny.

I would agree with that. I really don't think Congress had any business investigating baseball, as bad as the whole steroid thing was. Politics should be very wary of interfering in such things (and in our everyday lives in general).

Mr. Obama mentioned the issue for the second time in a week Sunday, near the end of a 40-minute interview with CBS News' "60 Minutes."
But he went further Sunday than he had before, vowing to use the power of the presidency to push the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Not a good year for the Gators (unless 'big orange" is Syracuse). You are joking right? They will probably be in the national title game against the winner of the Big 12 (the only other viable option is USC). They are favored to beat Alabama in the SEC title game (if Alabama wins they will be there instead) and it would be a monumental upset if the Seminoles beat them. FSU just got beat by a mediocre Boston College team at home.

Baseball has a longstanding, explicit antitrust exemption from Congress. That is why they
investigate problems in baseball to such an extent.

They may very well "roll". Alabama has been steady all year, the Gators have been like a yo-yo. But I think you'd be hard pressed to find many experts on such matters predicting a Tide win. Florida has crushed teams as of late and is the trendy pick.
But I've seen the steady team take out the world beaters.

Well, sports IS this country's biggest religion...
Do you know how many guys go to church with those little ear pieces so they can listen to the game during the service? Then they stand around in the foyer talking sports before going home to watch yet more sports!
I like watching a game in person as I can't stand having to listen to the yammering of the commentators- who talk is if everyone is deaf and stupid. I root for my favorite teams as much as anyone else. I DO NOT park my self on the couch all weekend glued to game after game like some guys (so very few women do this, so I'm not trying to be sexist) or yak about nothing else. And I hate those constant replays- once or twice is enough.

Where can you get a pair of those earpieces? 
Radio Shack of course! Right along with that slim pocket-sized radio you plug them into. Of course nowdays there's the blue tooth and your mutlifunctional cellphone set-up.
Since I go to a circle meeting/house church these days, I haven't been in a regular church except with my mother from time to time. I DO remember a guy who was apparently listening to the UT/Gators game a few years back, forgot he was in church, and jumped up hollering over a bad call by the ref. His poor wife looked soooo embarrassed!
