This evening, the Obama campaign announced that the senator is returning to Hawaii this week to be with his ailing grandmother, 85, who has been released from a local hospital, and has apparently taken a turn for the worse. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27287222/

He's doing what he should, which I respect. I hope that their time together is special. Edit: spelling

I was just thinking that this incident could represent a political liability for McCain if Obama is in Hawaii attending to his grandmother, and Team McCain continues to go after him. If Mrs. Dunham were to pass away and Obama had to leave the campaign again to be at her funeral, couldn't these political attacks snap back hard on McCain? But on the other hand, considering how little time is remaining in the election year, would McCain have no choice but to keep being aggressive? Sounds like a Catch-22...

Hey, Biden had no problem making fun of McCain's physical disabilities, and the left has run ads featuring McCain's cancer scars.....don't dish it out unless you're prepared to take it...

McCain can't afford to turn away or alienate any voters at this point in his campaign, which is precisely what he'd do if he attacked Obama while at his grandmother's funeral.

But you know what's good for the goose is NOT good for the gander on this pond! You know McCain can't return in kind. I think he can manage to campaign just fine and still speak to the issues without crossing any lines of impropriety. Lots of ailing little old ladies on the Democrat side - first Biden's mother in law and now Obama's grandmother. I desperately hope and pray they loose this election (hoping a little less every day though), but that's just plain sad. Biden can keep campaigning the next few days while Obama's in Hawaii - might be the best thing McCain has going - when everyone's paying attention to him with Obama off the grid, no telling what goofy things he'll be saying!

Honest question...Is this the same Grandma that Sen Obama "threw under the bus" early on during the Primaries? That being said I hope that she gets well. I also hope that she truly knows Christ Jesus as her savior, so when she does pass on, she can be with the Lord.

The Obama/Biden camp are already in the talks of letting Biden continue on and some other speakers as well. Obama will be leaving the trail sometime Thursday morning and will return Saturday maybe, it all depends on his grandmother's health and what the family wants.

Does this mean Biden will have to come out of hiding?? That should be intresting, just as Palin is hitting her stride. "In the past two days alone, Palin has answered questions from her national press corps on three separate occasions. By contrast, Biden hasn’t held a press conference in more than a month, and Obama hasn’t taken questions from his full traveling press corps since the end of September. " Obama will now will have to rely on Biden for a while. OUCH This has got to be like Batman leaving Robin in charge of crime fighting for a week. Btw where are all the people who were denegrating Palin by saying McCain was shielding her from the media? And why aren't they looking for Biden who has been doing a disappearing act lately? Palin boosts SNL audience to the highest ratings in 14 years and Biden is......? While BO is busy caring for the grandmother he previously scorned and used to explain his shortcomings, I hope to hear more about how Biden thinks something disasterous along the lines of a crisis will happen if BO is elected. SAY IT ISN'T SO JOE!

He's been on the campaign trail even since he took a leave of absence due to his mother-in-law's passing. Anyways, my prayers are with the Obama family.

Really??... Well I do see you are not showing it because this thread is about Obama's grandmother's health and him pulling himself off the trial for a few days to attend to her. Now where others have put aside their political differences and wished his grandmother and his family well and let them know they're keeping them in prayer, you have done nothing but post mean things... so yes, you're not showing anything but meaness, which is pretty sad. So if you don't have anything to say such as you're keeping them in prayer, ect., and you're just continue to be mean-spirited and bicker, then I'd suggest you start another thread about it or join in other threads that's already in progess instead.

Oh, I'm sorry, so the world should stop because The Messiah's grandmother is in ill health? John McCain should also refrain from campaigning, and not a disparaging word should be said because the woman is sick? Sorry, but it's a presidential campaign. John McCain can and should go right on with his campaign stops. Any valid criticism of Obama should go forth as normal. According to the left, I guess that constitutes "mean"....

I think that is good that he would show such concern for his grandmother. But is that not the one he accused of being a racist and then threw under the bus for pokitical expediency? Oh well, politics makes for strange bedfellowns. Thanks RC

I'm sorry for Obama's grandmother, and I will pray for her - but I honestly believe if this were McCain's mother, the media would call it a "political stunt".

Oh well, politics makes for strange bedfellowns. Thanks RC Here is the messiah: Well, you know she’s extremely proud, and the uh, the point I was making was not that my grandmother, uh harbors, uh any racial animosity, she doesn’t. But she is a uh, typical white person who, uh, you know uh if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, you know, there’s a reaction that’s been bred inta, uh, our experiences that, that don’t go away and that sometimes come out in, in the wrong way and, and that’s just the nature of race in our society. And this was his attempt at damage control. Had a white person uttered that anything was bred into blacks, even an admirable quality, he would have permanently become a scorned man. What an ignorant man. typical half-black person
