I am prone to motion sickness and I ride a bus back and forth to work. Most days, I'm fine. Other days, motion sickness hits me. Obviously, I cannot take Dramamine or other tablets every day. I'm looking for something that I could take/use when motion sickness begins to strike (not 1 hour before). What I'd love to find is a kind of melt-in-your-mouth strip (like antihistimine). Anyone have any ideas????

When my parents went on a cruise, Mom used an acupressure bracelet. Wonder if something like that would work?

I use wrist bands, and they help me tremendously. Plus, always always always sit where you can see what is going by you outside... like either you can see out a side window, or the windshield. If you read or something always look up every few moments so that your brain and body both know what's going on. Also, when flying I tend to notice a vast improvement in how I feel as far as motion sickness if I take Advil (or something similar) beforehand. I'll look for a link to the wrist bands that I use. They work extremely well for me. I HATED dramamine and bonine... they just about knock me out cold.

I keep a couple of ginger sweets in my bag for when I feel affected by motion sickness. Ginger is great for any kind of sickness actually. If you haven't tried it, you may want to experiment.

What about the patches you put behind your ear when you are out on a boat? I have family members who use them all the time when they fish in the ocean.

If you haven't tried it, you may want to experiment. Absolutely. I find it very helpful. Candied ginger works best for me. Caveat - I love the taste, but my father in law thinks it tastes like the little chemical biscuit at the bottom of the urinal in the men's restroom. (I find it disturbing that he has any idea what that tastes like, but that's actually what he said ....) BT

I've never heard of them! Health food stores usually sell candied ginger by the pound in the bulk foods section. You can also sometimes find it in the oriental items of your grocery store. Don't, however, go to the regular spice/baking section to buy it - they charge about 10 times the normal price for it there. Sometimes you find it in little square chunks, but I like the sliced versions a bit better.

Send me a PM and let me know if it works for you. It worked fairly well for me - I throw up every time I go snorkeling in Hawaii, which is not easy to do while you're floating in the ocean. (Does seem to attract the fish, though, which is cool .....) BT

There's also the homeopathic remedy Nux vomica. I don't know if you have the Nelson's brand over there, but they also do a combination remedy called Travella which contains: Ingredients: 6c homoeopathic potency of Apomorph, Staphisagria, Cocculus, Theridion, Petroleum, Tabacum & Nux vomica These remedies you can just chew whenever you need to. The tablets have little or no taste.

I use the Sea Bands that Gina mentioned -- I had to have them when I was traveling alone on a plane with 2 preschoolers. You can get them at the drugstores. They have been truly amazing for me.

Ginger is the word. Have some gingersnaps or ginger cookies and pop them in ASA you board. I get the same thing. Otherwise Gravol is the right medicine for motion sickness here in Canada.

Oriental markets are another place that make and/or sell ginger candy. I would also like to recommend that you drink lots of water. We get dizzy because out blood pressure changes. One way to stabilize our BP is to drink lots of water. I'm not sure if dizziness is the same as motion sickness, but it can't hurt to drink water.

I understand the feeling and frustration with inner ear problems; motion sickness. There is usually a causative effect of this and it may be simple. I have major ear and hearing problems. Having been in the military and being close to explosions; I have totally lost my hearing on two occasions. These periods were less than thirty minutes each but nerve wracking. I also spent a lot of time in the water and my ear drums have ruptured many times and as I get older they heal slower and slower each time. We have had patches put on them and even sinus surgery but only a temporary fix so I just live with it. I only have 40% in my left ear and 60% in my right. I have tinnitus badly in my left ear and sometimes I have motion sickness. Some things that help motion sickness for me: The patch is called scopolamine and fits behind the ear. I don’t take Dramamine, Antivert or other pills. I have for the most part learned to adjust to it. I just know it will go away…lol…in its time not mine. Try yawning deeply for several minutes. This clears the Eustachian tubes and you find it helps. Things not to do: do not pinch your nostrils and blow through your nose to clear the pressure. If your 20 y/o that may be ok the eardrums will stretch; If not they will tear. Have a blessed day dave

I've been using the recommended wrist band all week and it has been wonderful! I've even been able to read a book while traveling on the bus! Thanks for all your help! Note to dave/firefighter: I, too, have bad ears. I've had "tubes" put in 3 times since I was thirty (now I'm almost 60). I do pinch my nose and blow to relieve pressure in my Eustachian tubes (yawning does not unplug my ears) and I've had to do this since my tubes fell out. I do it very gently. I'm sure this has a lot to do with my motion sickness, but the wrist bands have done the trick for me!!!
