Has anyone seen Ernie & Sig Sound new video Dream On? The only think I've seen about it is the previews on Youtube. Just wondering if it's any good and how it compares to their previous 2 videos.

I've seen it. It's made with the high quality, cinematic standards we've come to expect from Gaither produced videos.

It's excellent. The biggest difference between this one and the past 2 or 3 is that, even though it is on the Gaither label, Bill Gaither and/or the GVB are not included. Guess the guys have come of their own!

As usual, it is high energy program. A little bit of the "dancing" but also the usual moving around that the group is so well known for. There are a couple of songs with a "big band" flavor -- personally, really I like them. Good tight quartet singing, too. I admit to being a diehard EHSS fan -- not that it would bias me or anything -- but I think it is an excellent video and CD.

I have not seen the entire video but I did see about 30 minutes of it on the Gaither Homecoming show. What I saw I liked. Well done production wise. They do some of the dancing but over all just good quartet singing.

Oh great more dancing for entertainment instead of the spread of the gospel. People would rather be entertained instead of a message and getting serious about the message of the Cross.

jwsduran -- In response to your statement about the spread of the gospel, how do you expect to reach unsaved people with the gospel unless and until you have some sort of connection with them? It is true that EHSS use some entertainment (BTW, entertainment isn't wrong. Nobody believes it is a sin to go to a theme park, watch TV, attend a sporting event, etc. just because they are "entertainment.") But more than that -- how do we expect to reach unbelievers with the gospel if we parade around like a bunch of Sunday, churchy, holier-than-thou people? It may be the entertainment that draws a lot of people in -- both sinners and saints alike -- but that gives an opportunity to share the good news with them. Many times you have to win people to yourself before you can witness to their soul or minister to their heart. EHSS is doing that.

When I saw the name of the thread I knew it would draw some negative comments. For those who feel that way let me say....

Spreading the gospel to people is sorta like spreading jam on a biscuit. It is darn near impossible if you don't have a biscuit. Likewise it is hard to spread the gospel it there is no one there to spread it to. WHat EH & SS does gets the people there and they also do some good old fashion flat footed singing. I saw part of the video and they stood behind 4 mics and they gathered arouns what looked like two RCA ribbon mics and belted out the songs like days gone by. They consistently pack the house and few groups out there can say that. So they are spreading far ore gospel than some people will ever give them credit for.

Just wanted to add my agreement to the previous posts. I've seen EHSS on video and in person; they are no more "entertainers" than any other SG group. The only difference is their style of presentation. Having seen them, I can't help but think that those four young men are truly Spirit-filled and their concerts are definitely Spirit-led. As has been said, if you want to reach the lost, you first have to draw them in, and EHSS definitely does that. No one ever said that Christians aren't allowed to have fun once in a while, anyway.

I've seen EHSS on video and in concert. In a live concert, sure, they'll do their best-known choreography songs, but probably over half the songs (and I'd guess 2/3) will have little to no choreography.

If I understand the rules correctly we can't post an entire copyrighted article but we can post a small portion of the article. With that in mind there is an article in Singing News I think is very appropriate here. Tim Lovelace said it much better than I ever could.

"Next I would like to mention Ernie Haase & Signature Sound. They are currently traveling on the Gaither tour and are always a crowd favorite. I used to go to the YMCA to workout, but now I just watch one of Signature Sound's videos and I am exausted-a complete cardio workout without lifting a finger! But one of my favorite things about being around Ernie is that we can always talk about the Bible and the goodness of the Lord. I love those guys and their singing."

I can't add anything to that.

Since I am the one that started this post, I feel it is time for me to step in and say enough of the criticism, bashing and arguing. I did not start this thread to get in a debate about the groups "presentation." I saw this video at Walmart for 13.00 and thought that was a pretty good deal. I havent seen anything on the video, so I just wanted opinions on how the video is. Hows the quality....the song selection. I know what a typical EH&SSQ video/concert consists of... and that's not what I wanted to discuss. This subject has been beat to death on these forums... give them a break guys.

Pianoman -- If you look at the posts so far, I think only one of them fits into the category of "bashing & criticism." So far most everyone who has posted here is supportive of EHSS.

Back to your question -- I have listened to both the video & CD, but haven't had a lot of time to go over them without interruptions. If you like EHSS, you are going to like this video. It is good quartet singing with the flavor that only Ernie & group can give it. At some point or another, each of the guys have solos, although off the top of my head I can't think of any particular song that specifically features any one of them. It is just good group singing.

There is also a good variety of songs -- a couple with a "big band" flavor, a ballad or two, some new songs (at least to me) and some older, traditional gospel songs. The theme of
"Dream On" is included throughout the video, with some footage of Ernie talking to some kids at a gym in Evansville (where he comes from) where he encourages them to live out their dreams of what they want to be when they grow up. There is also a singing group -- teenagers and young adults -- from Chicago that sings one song alone, and sings alone with SSQ on the final song of the program. It is kind of touching to see Tim, Ryan, & Doug bring their kids onto the stage with them at the end of the program as well.

There are a couple of songs that were obviously chosen to go with the location of the video shooting, which I doubt you will hear much in other locations. (I rather doubt that they would sing "My Kind of Town, Chicago" at a Gaither Homecoming in Texas, but then, who knows?)

Again, if you like good quartet singing, and if you like the music & ministry of EHSS, get the video. You should enjoy it.

We are called to be seperate from the world and not to love the things in it. America is obessed with Dancing With The Stars, it doesn't mean we have to act like the world to reach the lost. The whole focus is lost on a dance number. What if you had someone who needed lifted up because they are dying of cancer, I hardly think the dancing would help them feel better. It's like what a lot of churches are doing with this praise music. Who markets it but secular record companies. Because they know people will buy it. It must be the end times as Jesus already predicted a falling away from the truth.

Line it up with scripture of, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto good works."

How does the dancing uplift God at a concert that is to glorify Christ not entertain the flesh.

I haven't listened to the CD yet; but I KNOW is GREAT.

I've watched the DVD several times. It's WONDERFUL. The guys are so fun to watch and have lots of energy. I just love it. These aren't all the songs; but I love:

SPOILER ALERT (if you want to wait to watch the DVD)

My Heavenly Father Watches Over Me. (It was funny that the guys had to help Ernie up from his kneeling position)

The Song Never Give Up was cool. I love the marching at the beginning.

Reason Enough was great. The message spoke for itself.

Dream On. Loved it. Especially with the choir. Ernie's message to the kids was great too. 'There's not a valley deep enough That He can't lead you through. He'll walk with you Walk the roughest roads with you. No mountain ever rose so high. That you can't climb with Him. Then stand up tall. Stand and look down on it all.'

Since Jesus Passed By. Tim did a GREAT job on this song. Great message. 'Looking for that bright tomorrow; where no tears will dim the eye.'

Sundays are Made for Times Like These. Doug is GREAT on this song. Sundays use to be that way. Sunday morning worship and time with the family.

The Old Landmark. LOVE IT. LOVE IT. Loved the footage around Chicago. Loved the moves on stage. Loved the guy's energy. I could it hit replay on this song over and over again.

A Good Heart. Ernie does a WONDERFUL job on this song too. Good message too. I loved the way Ernie asked about each of the guy's kids and touched each of the guy's heart during the song. It was funny because he said we really need to pray for Tim because he has 2 teenage boys.

We Need Each Other. GREAT SONG. I loved that the guys bought their kids on stage. Great message. 'I am a part of you, you are a part of me. We're not alone in this world, we need each other. Reach out and take my hand, I need your strength to stand. We're not alone in this world, we need each other.'

Other highlights. I love the bonus stuff. One was a tour around Chicago w/ Ernie as the guide.

Poor Ryan gets picked on again.

And Tim. Ernie acknowledges Tim as a GREAT bass singer and asks him to say something to the crowd. Boy did the crowd eat that up. I think all he said was something like 'How Are You Doing'.

It was really cute at the end when the guy's kids were on the stage when Doug's little girl Emma said 'Dream On'.

All I can say (I think I've said enough ) is GREAT, TREMENDOUS, WONDERFUL DVD. The guys and everyone involved did a GOOD job. I love them just as they are and hope they don't ever change. These guys really love the Lord and it really shows. The people they reach through their music is fantastic. If you haven't bought it; you really need to.

Great review! I'll be getting it one of these days (just not quite sure how soon!)

I doubt any of the songs will top "Reason Enough." That's such a simple song, but it really is dynamite - dynamite of the Gospel Truth sort.
