Is there anyone out there like me? I cannot seem to find dress pants that look good on me. I am a pear shape, large bottom, heavy hips and thighs. Most dress pants seem to hug or cling to tightly to my bottom and thighs, but if I go a size up they don't fit in the waist. I have a small waist compared to my bottom. What do I do, aside from getting pants made? Is there a type of pant that might work better? I usually just wear skirts, but I find myself needing something that's casual and skirts are too dressy. I've seen those wide legged dress pants, the really wide legs and don't know if they would work or not. Any ideas? I'm willing to invest somewhat in a good pair, although I'm trusting I'll loose this extra baby weight soon. What do you think?

Buy them a size large and get them tailored. It's relatively cheap and the fit makes them a dream.

Yes get them altered. Nordstrom and other higher end department stores will alter them for you, either for free or for a decent fee, depending on the price. Plus those salespeople tend to be a little better at advising at how clothes fit. Try Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, J. Jill or another place that specializes in nice business clothes for women. Due to the economy some of the winter clearance sales have already started. Plus the sizes are a little more consistent.

I'm not sure of the name of this style, but I like the long, flowy pants that look like they're actually a plain skirt - the legs are often wide and straight or 'bell' shaped from the thighs down, and many often come with elastic waistbands, so no need to worry about dress sizes. I wish I could tell you a name brand to look for, but I only buy from thrift stores so I have a mix.

If you want an alternative to tailoring... which shouldn't cost too much, and you may even be able to do yourself (depending on style and all that) I would suggest that you look at FashionBug... you can go to Fashionbug.com and look for "right fit" styling. (I attempted to link to the page, but should it not work, that's what it's called) This provides a place for you to put in your measurements, and it will tell you which style should work for you. I have some jeans in their "right fit" styling, and believe me, I've never had jeans that fit so well! I was quite impressed. =) So, you may want to check it out. I believe they have dress pants as well, not just jeans. (They do in the stores anyway)
