This is going to be my one post (I believe) in this thread I'm starting. I simply want to read and learn people's thoughts on this. I'm leaving it wide open for people to answer however they choose to the following questions: How would you describe divine intervention? How do you know when it has happened? Has it ever happened to you?

Interesting question TH. I have some thoughts. I'll post them later as I'm still at work.

How would you describe divine intervention? God intervening either directly or through an angelic force in any situation He so chooses. quote:
How do you know when it has happened? That's difficult to say. On the one hand, some are easy - there are some events that simply would not have happened if God had not intervened. However, there are other situations that could, conceivably, be nothing but pure coincidence. For those that fall in to the latter category, I think it is somewhat subjective. Usually if it an answer to prayer, it is easier to see it as divine intervention. quote:
Has it ever happened to you? A few times. Never in a "dramatic" way (someone coming back from the dead, etc.), but certainly in powerful ways.

How would you describe divine intervention? Off the top of my head it would be something that is associated with God causing something to happen either by manipulating the laws of nature/physics, or sending one of His messengers [either heavenly (angel) or earthly (human)] to guard/protect, provide situations/circumstances/opportunities when there seems to be none to prevent a tragedy from occurring, or permit an occurrence that blesses the pants off of one receiving it. How do you know when it has happened? Usually, you know when it has happened because you can’t believe what just happened and you feel totally and utterly thankful. Has it ever happened to you? I can honestly say….yes. It may not seem so "divine" to some, but it sure blew me away after the fact. I couldn't keep myself from crying afterwards. My testimony of this is rather long so I’ll just provide the link to it DMV Testimony

I'm trying to think back through all the instances that I attributed certain events to God's intervention, only for me to be cycnical about it a few weeks later and call them just coincidence, or normal occurance in our earthly life. I haven't experience anything miraculous, like, something that would make me go, Wow, God, that's really you behind that! But I'm sure a lot of what's happened in my life has God's hands orchestrating, and pulling all the strings.

How would you describe divine intervention? God moving in a supernatural way. quote:
How do you know when it has happened? When human effort(s) seems futile, and miraculously by the grace of God you know, you have what you've asked for. I believe prayer (ours or others) has a big part in God's plan to intervene. quote:
Has it ever happened to you? Yes. I've witnessed events and answers to prayers that only he could alone could provide. In-fact, the Bible is full of divine interventions. As far, as I know, the words "Divine intervention" are not in the bible. But still, we know it is by the grace of God he intervenes. God's divine interventions are repeated over and over in the scriptures. His incredible love has been revealed in the hearts of all who have believed and confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord. He, drawing our hearts to him is a "divine intervention". Salvation is a miracle that only he has provided. If he hadn't intervened in my life when I was lost in sin, I would have continued down the dark path to my death.

I have had many experiences of the Lord intervening. I will describe this one. One afternoon around 2:30, the Lord spoke to me (not in an audible voice) and said "Pray for Kathy (a friend of mine) NOW!"...I began praying, asking God to protect her, and after I finished praying, I had the wonderful peace that this prayer was answered. Around 5 PM, Kathy called me and said, "You ain't going to believe what happened to me today. I was at the Pic N Sav parking lot, and my ex-boyfriend busted my car window out, pulled me by the hair, threw me in his truck and took me to the river. As he was attempting to rape me, a big ole deputy sheriff pulled up, stopped the attempt, and locked him up". I answered, "What time was this?" She replied, " around 2:30"...the same time I was praying. walkin2e

Hi TorchHeart, Mr Fribbles has said what I would have said. Others have too - but he was first to post. So no need for me repeating it. Here are two examples of God's interventions. Years ago a relative of mine fell ill with cancer and had to go to hospital. The news devastated us all as you would imagine. But he was a man of Faith and kept calm through it. In hospital, he met another man who also suffered with cancer and was expected to die. Neither he nor his family were believers. One evening, my relative felt "called" to talk to this other man. He told him about Jesus, and, also told him that all would be well. It must have taken courage (Faith?) to say the latter thing. To cut a long story short, both my relative and the other man were totally healed. This happened some 10 plus years ago. The man and his family became Christians. They are close friends with my relative. A priest I knew had to go to a meeting, but somehow fe "felt" that he should wait. He waited 10, 15, 20 minutes and grew anxious that he'd be late. Eventually, he felt it was OK to go. He left his office and drove down the road. Just half a mile away was an accident. He stopped to help. There on the ground was a little girl hit by a car, she was crying and asking for him by name. She was the daughter of one of his parishioners. Had he left for the meeting on time he would have missed the whole event. Are both these stories coincidences? It's for you to decide. I believe God does sometimes intervene directly, or through other people, to help us when we need it most.

Yes, on several occasions. They have ranged from small things to very large things. Divine intervention saved my life and made me sober. Divine intervention has happened when I didn't ask for help, only thought about it. It's putting people in the right place at the right time. It's that unexpected check that comes in the mail when it's most needed. it's trusting God that He will handle it and does. It's the things that happen that man can't possible accomplish.

As someone who spends a lot of times in the outdoors, I can clearly see how God provided people for me to help me in times of trouble. They were like God's angels who showed up at the right time.

Devine intervention must really be seen in the light of what God does in general, for to talk about intervention suggests that in general He does very little and only acts on the odd occasion. Now if we consider that it is He who acts to provide the rains and food for both the righteous and unrighteous, and by His will this world continues to function at all, what is intervention? I think we could say it is interferring with the natural/logical order of things. Hence, we see both good and bad things that seemingly occur that could be classified as acts of God. Now there will be many that refuse to believe that God is capable of doing anything that would hurt or kill men and they will only see intervention as saving grace for good not evil. Nevertheless, many of us still hope for a well directed bolt of lighting in the face of the wickedness of men. I guess in terms of the natural world all seems natural even the disasters but what really surprises me is the direct intervention of God in the hearts of men. Like Paul on the road to Damascus we all have intentions of evil but God breaks into otherwise closed minds and hearts and we are changed and left convinced God intervenes in the affairs of men.

How great, is our God!!! I feel led to mention that your post brought back a familiar answer to prayer, for an older woman in our church. The Lord, also, spoke to me, very similiar as he did to you. He strongly impressed on me to specifically pray for her. I recall seeing this woman's face as I prayed (in my mind). And my heart was grieving so in prayer for her and asking Jesus to heal her of blindness that was taking over both of her eyes. And like, you, I had such a peace that this prayer would be answered. Shortly, after; our pastor calls me (why, me?) to tell me of something that happened while he was at this same woman's home, a short time ago. The pastor calling me at home was unusual. He was excited to tell me something that happened during his visit. I was a young Christian at the time, and really didn't know the woman that well, but I had just been praying for her...and was all ears. He said, he had been over to her home a short time ago to see if she and her husband could use some help of any kind.......He then went on to say, that while he was at their table, eating lunch with them.......HER EYES suddenly improved to the point that she could SEE again! He began praising God for this miracle! I told the Pastor, I too, had felt led to pray for her eyes to be healed just a short time ago. And explained to him about actually seeing her face.............So, I asked him what time this healing happened? Sure enough it happened at the time I'd been praying. It was God's divine intervention for healing her! We were both praising the Lord! This happened approx. 22 years ago. (At that time, I was a young Christian...and other than Salvation, this was the first time I had experienced God's grace and His absolute divine intervention in such a way, as this.) Praise Him.
