I am facing a problem. My 16 year old son has admitted activity to me that, now that I am a saved Christian, I believe is ungodly. The problem is my wife. She disagrees with me and thinks that our son should be left alone, or even encouraged, in this behavior. My sons and my wife are "nominal" Christians but are not on fire for the Lord. I don't know what to do now! Thor

Hello thorkraki I don't mean to drive a wedge between you and your wife, but you owe it to your son to enter into his life as a confidant. Consider the gook of Proverbs. It's basically a father giving his son sage advice on the wisdom of life. So, I would proceed with your relationship with your son. Then it's his decision to take his life in any direction that he desires. Pray that the direction is of the Lord.

Dear Jn1010LF Thank you for the good advice and kind words! I have spoken about this with my son. His reply is always that his mother and brothers don't care, and that I wouldn't have cared before I came to the Lord, so he will continue in this sort of ungodly lifestyle. I don't want him continuing it in my home in front of me and his younger brothers, but he does this! This is why I don't know what to do. Thor

I would disregard your wife for if a father does not stand up for his son no one will. I would and have sat down with my son and told him who much I love him and how much I want him to be all that he can be in Christ. Hence, if there is something that could come between my son and Christ, I would die trying to move it, for no man has a greater love than to lay down his life for another although it is supposed to be that way for fathers and their sons if in fact they are your sons. As long as your son sees your love, he will not despise you for it. I always remember my niece doing something that was annoying her mother. So my sister told her daughter to stop it, but she did not. I then asked my niece if she loved me, and she to my surprise said yes. So I then said, "stop it". She stopped. Sometimes it is not a good idea to tell your loved ones that you love them but it can't hurt to ask if they think you love them. Christ says something to the effect that if we love Him we will keep His commands. Now I do not see what Chirst requires of us as being any requirements of the law but rather the demands love places on our hearts.Your son does not need your laws to live by but your love he should not be able to resist or deny but lovingly want to copy. If your wife wants to disagree then that is her oppinion and as long as you grant her the right to hold such, she also should respect your right as well. If we do not teach our children, then satan is all too willing to teach them.

I think you should talk to your pastor about the situation. Without knowing what the activity is, I can't really say much more than that.

Try to relate it to God the father and His Son. Let him know you love him but that he needs to honor you and your wife are his parents. Pray to God for Him to give you Wisdom. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraides not; and it shall be given him James 1:5 I'll be praying for you.
