I realize I should clarify the title of this thread.
November 11 is the day Canada and other Commonwealth countries pause to remember those who have fallen in war on our behalf. There will be special services in every city and town and at 11:11, all pause for a minute of silence. Many places will have a 21-gun salute.

In the U.S., we call it Veteran's Day and it is to honor all service people, past, present, living or dead.
Memorial Day is our day to honor those who died while serving our country.
Happy Veteran's Day to all who have or are serving and their families.

Amen to the scripture of the week! Hi to all! How was the weekend?
I had a bit of a rough weekend with my husband. We had some fights and hopefully it is patched up for now. It's been painful but church, as always fit what I needed. At the mega-church the sermon was about being thankful, no matter what, and how it's good for your health, emotions, relationship with God, etc. At the Baptist church the guest speaker was a Palestinian pastor from the Gaza Strip and after hearing what they go through there for Christ (even being killed) and how they just keep going strong, I appreciated our freedoms a lot more. We do take our right to worship as we please for granted.
After church we went to my old store and I'd sold another video. (I've only sold videos thus far...) DD1 and I will have the store open on Wednesday! I haven't worked there in 19 and a half years!!!! It will be good to be out of the house. Being there once a week will help us to determine if it's God's will to be there. When we got home I found out that I'd sold a whole lot of stuffed animal ornaments from e-Bay! I was so thrilled. (They are little bears, penguins, and dogs peeking out of a mitten.) I had feared that I couldn't sell them, but folks fought over them!
So, in a few minutes I will go send out some packages. God is soooo good!

Tomorrow hubby has the day off. We may go look at storage units. (Need to get a lot of things out of the house so the mold inspectors aren't hindered and so that hubby can pull up the carpet and restore the dining room floor.) My intention is to only bring back what we can use, and try to let go of un-needed items.
We are quite the pack rats and we used to go to all yard/garage sales around and to gift shoppes, etc. A few years ago I went cold turkey. Things have to leave, not come. I've sold some things on e-Bay. God has been calling us (kids and I) to have either a Bible Study or house church for a few years now. We need to get rid of the mold, and we need to clear out our "extra" stuff. I'd like it stripped down to just the necessities with just a few nicer things mixed in. My grandmother used to say..."Blessed be nothing".

I like that, "Blessed be nothing." I hate clutter and rooms overfilled with stuff. Well, let me correct myself. I have no problem with it in other people's homes but I would like mine to be less full. Dh keeps adding stuff and, of course, having two sons and all their furniture back home doesn't help. Also, I somehow wound up with the two sets of chairs from my paternal grandfather's home. We have our own dining chairs plus heirloom stools from dh's family so we really don't need or have room for these, but they connect me to my father who died when I was young and I don't want to get rid of them.
I also have two battered chairs that I figure must be at least 150 years old, made by my maternal grandmother's paternal grandfather (did you get all that?). The legs were cut short to acommodate to the two little old men who had them before we did; a number of different colours of paint are on one, the spindles for the chair backs are broken and the seats are made of old fisherman's hemp rope that has been patched by several different other kinds of rope. But they're part of my heritage. I can't let them go.
We have one set of chairs, flocked pink, upholstered backs and seats with queen anne legs that we use on the main floor. I paid to have them refurbished, but the other chairs line the walls of our bedroom, acting as useful clutter-collectors, none safe to sit on. I want to have the dark oak chairs reglued but not refinished. The seats are partially padded with some natural fibre--horse hair?--and covered with leather. I don't want that part to change.
I've been thinking about what to do with the two string chairs. We have a large family room panelled all around with knotty pine and I've made it the family heritage room of the house. It has a large picture window, and I'm thinking about finding a way to hang the chairs from the wall above the window, so that they come down over the top of the window on either side. Then I could use them as plant holders and they're not really taking up any space that we would use for other things. I've also thought of mounting them on the wall (where there is no window) and using them as shelves to display various items from my family's past.
One last chair is a wooden armchair, oak I think, that my paternal grandfather sat in every single day for years. This is where he sat to eat and where he sat to read and study his Bible. Ds3 has already laid claim to it. It's very precious because it is so worn out by use. Grandpa must have used it for other purposes as well, because you can see impressions that have been banged in as he used various parts as a surface for his carpentry endeavours. The seat has split and needs to be repaired.
I'm such a procrastinator. I should get these things fixed. But that wouldn't solve the clutter problem. Oh well. I guess I got carried away here in my memories. Sorry about that.

I've been known to not want to part with old chairs that are too dangerous to sit in...so I put them on my deck and turn them into plant pot holders. It's pretty that way. Eventually the chairs fall apart though.

I don't think I could bear to see these exposed to the elements. I was talking about the string chairs one day, discussing what to do with them, and one of my sons got all excited and said he really likes them and don't get rid of them. I wonder what his future wife will have to say about them coming into her home.

I was going to go to bed 3 1/2 hours ago--all day I've been tired--but my youngest son, the one who lives more than 1000 miles away, came online. I haven't heard from him for ages, so no way am I leaving the computer for sleep!

One of the up-coming "tasks" is to spend a solid three hours in prayer. He's really looking forward to it.

I love Christmas trees Barb! I think it's wonderful that you can bring your Aunt her tree for Christmas.
I forgot to say that Maggie, I'm excited for you about your book!
Someone from church called about a car she is selling last night. I'd asked her about it previously. She wants $2000 for a 2000 Chevy Prizm, with around 150,000 miles on it. Might be a good car for my oldest, we'll have to see. A lot of miles, but it's well below Kelly Blue Book cost.

Dee, the car sounds like a great buy . . . and will make a nice first car for her, too.
Barb, I like Christmas trees, but can only deal with one anymore . . I stored all my Christmas decorations in the laundry room last year, so they will be much easier to deal with this time. The wedding celebration sounds like such fun! Glad you got to enjoy that with your sisters. I hear you on the toys taking up the living room. I just moved Garrett's toy box to the little sitting room off the dining room. I think that is going to work great. When he plays with the toys, he wont' be distracted with the TV and vice-versa. And he's learning to do a better job picking them up . . in fact, he did something awesome today . . . he dragged a bunch of his blocks out then picked them up when he was finished playing with them -- without being told! I thought that was pretty good for an 18-20 month old. He's a good kid
Garrett's all ready for school & we're waiting for the bus. We've had quite a week so far . . . today has been calm so far, tho. Monday he decided to play confetti-throwing with the dirt in one of my flower pots, so that was fun to clean up -- from his hair, his ears, the floor, the window the chaise lounge, including in all the tufts -- that was fun to get out! It looked like he'd emptied half the pot of it's dirt, but I don't think it was more than 1/2 cup -- he just managed to scatter it well 
Then yesterday, he came home with a really bad diaper -- apparently they didn't get the diaper on him good, so . . . YUK! He wound up getting a shower, then a bath over that one . . . of course, he loved that -- loves his baths, and especially likes my hand-held shower thing when I put in on the fine mist -- I call it spot-free rinse 
So yeah, in comparison today has been pretty calm. I got a few things done before he got here -- some laundry sorted, and the laundry room floor swept and some laundry sorted, then folded some clothes while he was here, but a good deal of my time was spent on the phone with the Tupperware lady -- she is so sweet!! And I told her about CW and invited her into the chat thread, so be watching for her. Anyway, we got the show closed, so it will be ordered today.
Now, I need to get off here and get ready for the OA meeting.

Hi Christine!
It went pretty well at the store. Had a few customers. She seemed happy that we did it and we're looking forward to next week. I'm going to go there after church on Sunday and offer to put up a display Christmas tree on Wednesday. I think a tree and a lot of lights will bring folks in.

Oh...I confused my Baptist pastor today... He called the store and said he was pastor so and so from the Northville Baptist Church, and I replied that this was Amy M. of Northville Baptist Church. Poor guy wasn't expecting to get ME! It was funny. Nobody knows that I'm considering buying the store.
